Job description
We are currently seeking a motivated individual to join our team as an Assistant Planner and gain significant experience of working within a progressive authority within our expanding team.
An Assistant Planner is a great opportunity to start a career in planning, especially to any recent graduates with a planning qualification, or for someone with transferable skills that wishes to move into the field of Town planning.
These are exciting times in Neath Port Talbot. There is lots to do with innovative and ground-breaking initiatives to be part of. Over the next few years we will be dealing with a huge range of applications including Strategic Infrastructure Projects (SIPs) ,those related to the delivery of Freeports, off shore wind and our transition to a green sustainable industrial future in Port Talbot.

Your daily routine will include dealing with all aspects of planning issues associated with general queries on the need for planning permission together with the processing of less complex applications for development, lawful development certificates, and any associated appeals, whilst securing quality and efficient outcomes.
1. To respond to all correspondence and enquiries associated with the need for planning permission.
2. Preparation of Committee and Delegated reports on planning and other related applications.
3. Attendance at site meetings.
4. Carrying out of statutory and informal consultations and the advertising of applications including site notices
5. To provide pre-application advice to all customers in respect to planning applications including householder development, advertisement consents, shopfronts, and more minor commercial and industrial developments.
6. To undertake all duties associated with the processing of planning applications including householder applications, advertisement consents, shopfronts, and more minor commercial and industrial developments from receipt through to decision, together with the discharge of conditions associated with any decisions.
7. To undertake the processing of planning appeals, including the preparation of appeal statements, attendance at site visits and giving evidence at hearings, when necessary.
About you:
Do you have:
Experience in a Development Management environment.
8. Possess good knowledge of IT and PC skills.
9. Ability to work alone with minimum supervision, but also to work as part of a team and support other team members.
10. Excellent oral and written communication skills both face to face and on the telephone
11. Ability to work under pressure and to produce work of a complex and specialist nature in association with the implementation of the planning legislation to established deadlines.
12. The ability to drive and travel throughout the borough.
You will hold:
4 GCSE’s (Grades A – C) in English, Welsh or Mathematics, or equivalent qualification
13. Development Management experience or skills transferable to the role.
