Contract: Permanent, Full-time. Term time plus 5 days.

Salary: NJC Grade 5 £24,597 - £27,576 (actual salary)

The role

We wish to appoint a reliable, enthusiastic and hardworking Progression Tutor to join our Student Services team. We're looking for an excellent communicator with a can-do attitude and initiative.

The role

This role is an essential part of how Connell Co-op College ensures that students progress to aspirational destinations. Students at Connell Co-op College currently progress to university at a rate significantly above the national and local average. Your primary responsibility will be to meet with students in small groups or one-to-one to support them with a successful transition to sixth form life, progression into year 13 and the UCAS/next steps process as they plan for life after college. As part of this, the post-holder will be required to deliver workshops to large groups. This role will give you a real opportunity to be a catalyst for social change helping disadvantaged students reach university or other aspirational destinations.

More generally, you will provide support to students with their academic and personal development and work with students (individually and in groups) to focus on their learning and study skills, enabling them to achieve their full potential and progress successfully from the College to Higher Education, Apprenticeships or employment. You will provide operational support to the Progression Tutor Manager, as appropriate, and to work with colleagues within the Progression Tutor team flexibly and as required.

We are committed to the continuing professional development of our staff and so the opportunity to work towards additional qualifications in careers advice and guidance or mental health first aid or supporting with attendance would be available if desired.

Duties and responsibilities

Specific

* To attend Progression Tutor meetings, and meet regularly with the Progression Tutor Manager to discuss individual student guidance and support issues and concerns relating to attendance, progress or engagement to ensure that students ultimately succeed
* To conduct a programme of one-to-one academic and pastoral monitoring interviews with students, and having oversight of the students' progress relative to minimum expected grades, liaising with parents and staff, as appropriate, to ensure timely and relevant interventions, where this progress is below expectations, as directed.
* To deliver workshops to groups of students to help inform and guide their choices on their next steps.
* Act as agreement manager and provide timely and appropriate intervention for students needing support with attendance and punctuality and/or academic support
* To support students in a successful transition to sixth form life, ensuring they are on the right courses for their chosen vision
* To conduct a programme of one-to-one progression meetings to ensure students have appropriate plans for their next steps as they enter year 13
* To provide information and offer impartial advice/guidance on future plans, and facilitate access to specific careers advice where more specialist knowledge is needed
* To help with the change of course process.
* To support students through the completion of Higher Education and employment applications
* To quality assure the accuracy and appropriateness of individual UCAS applications, including course choices, personal statements and references
* To be part of the destinations team, ensuring all students have an appropriate destination when they leave the college

General - as part of the student services team

* To support the work of the wider careers team, to support the college in maintaining our performance against the Gatsby Benchmarks and the criteria of the Quality in Careers Award.
* To support Careers events and trips that enhance students' progression opportunities.
* To participate in appropriate college activities, which include welcome evenings, open evenings, parent evenings, enrolment and induction.
* To refer students, where appropriate, to additional learning and specialist support.
* To be involved in school liaison and in interviewing prospective students.
* Provide Mental Health First Aid to students as appropriate (training for this qualification can be provided)
* To attend all meetings and training specific to progress tutoring.
* To develop your own expertise that will benefit the whole pastoral/student support team
* To attend any necessary training and/or development as the role demands.
* To provide supervision in communal student areas as directed
* To support the Safeguarding and wider pastoral team as directed when the need arises

The duties of this post may vary from time to time without changing the general character of the post or of the level of responsibility within it.
