Overview
Technical Optimiser - Clean Water Field Operations – West at Yorkshire Water. Base Location: Chellow Heights covering the Bradford & Craven Area (West). Work type: Permanent. 37 hours per week, Monday – Friday.
We have an exciting opportunity for a Technical Optimiser to join the Field Operations team at Yorkshire Water and be a part of helping Yorkshire Water to provide the best service to our customers.
What we do: Yorkshire Water provides essential water and wastewater services to the Yorkshire region. We look after communities, protect the environment, and plan to look after Yorkshire’s water today, tomorrow, 24/7, 365 days a year.
Responsibilities
* Organise and coordinate resources to deliver complex jobs (Field, leakage, Service Partners, ER, etc.). Includes proactive network operation and maintenance activity; completion of operational risk assessments; supervision of network intervention; and responding quickly to network failure to minimise impact on key performance targets (e.g., Water Supply Interruptions, Water Quality).
* Be fully aware of and trained in H&S requirements related to operating the water network (including working on the highway, confined spaces, lone working). Able to challenge colleagues, partners and organisations where H&S is compromised.
* Coach and train team members to deliver excellent performance and understand how individual and team performance links to the company’s objectives and performance commitments related to Network Services.
* Understand financial implications of Repair & Maintenance work on the Water Services Agreement; balance risk and cost to deliver customer solutions in a cost-effective manner; work with R&M partners to support efficient delivery and reduce the cost of failure where possible.
* Deliver consistent, excellent face-to-face customer service and ownership of customer problems; resolve on first visit where possible and promote follow-on work when needed to drive timely resolution.
* Understand Retail competition, the Water Act, and obligations to deliver service that is compliant with Market Codes in relation to Retail Competition.
* Operate and optimise the distribution network to ensure a continuous flow of supplies; assess risk in terms of Supply/Demand, Service and Supply Interruptions and make decisions to deliver the best outcome for customers and the business.
* Participation in a regional standby rota will be required once trained.
Qualifications & Skills
* In-depth technical knowledge of the network and complex jobs (e.g., trunk mains repairs requiring system changes).
* Advanced hydraulics trained.
* Strong coaching skills to develop and mentor junior team members.
* Understanding of how the role fits within the business plan and the ability to deliver outputs.
* Experience delivering against challenging targets and performance commitments.
* Builds and maintains effective internal and external relationships; acts as a role model.
* Positive approach to change (technology, processes, behavioural and organisational).
* Demonstrate excellent customer service internally and externally.
Desirable to have
* Coaching skills (training).
* Experience in a commercially oriented and/or regulated environment.
* Experience in the water or wastewater sectors or related utilities, process or manufacturing sectors.
* Technical understanding of water networks and assets.
* HNC in engineering or related qualification.
* Project management experience.
* Knowledge of Water Regulations and Plumbing.
