Overview
Applications are invited for a locum Consultant post for a period of 6 months to increase expertise in High-Risk Obstetrics & Delivery Suite management within the Trust and to provide leadership and innovation within the Directorate of Maternity & Perinatal Medicine. All maternity services are provided at MMUH, delivering approximately 5000 women per year, with a large level 2+ NNU and full capability to provide HDU and ITU care to our mothers. There is a nationally recognized co-located midwifery-led birthing unit. The Fetal Medicine Unit provides a full range of FM diagnostic and screening services, with well-established links to allied regional services. Antenatal care is based on a specialist multidisciplinary clinic model with clinics staffed by dual consultants, and teams where this promotes better access to and contact with hard-to-reach groups to ensure equal access to high quality obstetric care.
Responsibilities
* Clinical commitments: 1.5 programmed activities (PA) in support of the consultant position. The job plan is full-time, and the post holder will join a team of experienced consultants to provide excellent maternity care.
* Contribute to achieving national standards including the Saving Babies Lives Care Bundle.
* Promote in-house delivery suite/obstetric training and take clinical and managerial responsibility for antenatal services, including care for disadvantaged mothers (substance abuse, infectious diseases, and other vulnerable groups).
* Collaborate with eight dedicated obstetricians and five other consultants in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at MMUH to provide obstetric emergency, in-patient and outpatient services with junior staff support.
Qualifications
* CCT or equivalent and entry on the GMC Specialist Register in Obstetrics and Gynaecology; full GMC registration, MRCOG (or equivalent) and RCOG ATSM qualification in Advanced Labour Ward practice (or equivalent) are essential.
* Accredited training in other obstetric ATSMs and emergency obstetric training (PROMPT/MOET) is desirable.
