About the role
As Head of Technology Operating Model, I am accountable for the definition, implementation, and ongoing effectiveness of Tesco Technology’s end‑to‑end operating model. My role is to ensure that how Technology operates day‑to‑day—its structures, decision‑making, governance, planning, delivery, and ways of working— is clear, coherent, scalable and consistently applied across the organisation. Working closely with senior leaders across Technology and the wider business, I focus on making strategic intent executable, driving measurable improvements in Technology’s effectiveness and ensuring the operating model enables teams to deliver value predictably and at pace.
You will be responsible for
* Technology Operating Model
* End Technology operating model and act as the single point of accountability for how Technology operates
* Framework covering accountabilities and decision rights, governance structures and forums, planning, funding and delivery cadences, mandatory standards vs local flexibility
* Ensure the operating model balances consistency at scale with decentralised execution
* Lead continuous evolution of the operating model as the organisation changes
* World adoption, not just documentation, through tooling, guidance, and embedded governance
* Enabling Technology Strategy: model leadership and structure to support Technology Strategy, ensure strategy is supported by clear execution mechanisms, governance and cadence, partner with Business Strategy & Planning to ensure strategies can be practically delivered through the operating model
* Leadership: Lead the Technology Operating Model practice as a core enabling capability, align closely with Enterprise Architecture, Portfolio, Colleague Engagement and many other teams to drive operating model ownership & evolution, and continuously optimise the operating model based on measurable effectiveness
You will need
* Extensive experience defining, implementing, and evolving large‑scale Technology operating models with significant bespoke build and 3rd party SaaS/COTS
* Proven track record translating strategy into execution frameworks
* Strong experience designing governance, decision‑making and delivery systems
* Organisational and operating model design experience
* Governance and decision‑rights design expertise
* Understanding of technology SDLCs and agile product delivery models
* Portfolio, planning and delivery cadence design (desirable)
* Change enablement and adoption at scale
* Coaching, facilitation and consultative leadership skills
* Data‑informed evaluation of operating effectiveness
