Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust is seeking to appoint a Non-Executive Director who will be designated to become Chair of the Quality Committee from April 2026, following the planned transition of the incumbent. This appointment offers the opportunity to play a pivotal role in shaping quality, safety and patient experience across a large and complex NHS organisation.

This is a part-time role, approximately 3 days per month.


Main duties of the job

As a Non-Executive Director, they will share collective responsibility for the leadership, performance and governance of the Trust. Working alongside executive and non-executive colleagues, they will provide independent oversight, constructive challenge and strategic support, ensuring the Trust continues to deliver safe, effective and compassionate care.

As Chair of the Quality Committee, the role-holder will lead the Board's assurance on quality, safety and clinical governance, overseeing the Trust's approach to continuous improvement and learning. The Chair will work closely with executive leaders to ensure that quality considerations are embedded throughout strategy, operational delivery and system partnerships.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

* Providing leadership and direction to the Quality Committee, ensuring its effective operation and alignment with Board priorities
* Offering robust scrutiny and assurance on quality, patient safety, clinical effectiveness and patient experience
* Supporting a culture of openness, learning and continuous improvement across the Trust
* Working collaboratively with executive leaders, clinicians and governors to strengthen quality governance
* Contributing fully to Board discussions on strategy, performance, risk and sustainability
* Acting as an ambassador for the Trust, engaging with partners across the health and care system, including integrated care systems, local authorities, the voluntary sector and academic partners


Person specification


Experience

* Senior-level experience within a large, complex health or social care organisation
* A demonstrable commitment to patients, public service and the values of the NHS
* Evidence of operating effectively at board or equivalent senior leadership level, with the confidence to challenge constructively and support strategically


Experience

* Substantial expertise in quality, safety, clinical governance and/or service user experience


Skills

* The ability to meet the independence requirements set out in the Code of Governance for NHS Provider Trusts
