Teaching Assistant

We are seeking a full-time teaching assistant for a maternity cover to start November 2025.

The Teaching Assistant will work closely with classroom teachers to provide support in delivering highly effective and personalised instruction to a young persons with an EHCP. This role requires patience, excellent communication skills and a passion for assisting in the learning and development of young people. The appointee will be line-managed by the Head of the Learning Support Department.

The main duties and responsibilities of this role include:

● Promoting the safeguarding and welfare of the young people with whom you are working and come into contact.

● Facilitating the educational and social development of the young people you work with, under the direction of the school's SENDCo.

● Working closely with other professionals to help to deliver the curriculum 1:1 and in small groups, both within the classroom and in separate teaching spaces.

● Working with subject teachers and the SENDCo to help support students to complete successfully their classwork and prep., monitoring progress and recording key areas where development is required.

● Contributing towards pupils' Individual Learning Plans, where required.

● Promoting independence in learning among pupils and helping them to develop strategies that enable them to become more self-reliant in their studies.

● Helping to differentiate tasks set in class in order to render them more accessible to the pupils you are supporting.

● Clarifying and reinforcing class teachers' instructions and questions.

● Participating in INSET opportunities and CPD as directed by the SENDCo.

● Supporting classroom teachers by helping to keep pupils on task and to encourage their participation in lessons.

● Referring any concerns to either the SENDCo or Designated Safeguarding Lead.

● Attending the regular Support for Learning Department meetings.

● Helping to prepare annual review paperwork and attending annual review meetings.

● Attending parent review meetings to discuss progress with teachers.

● Attending school trips, when appropriate.

Personal Specification

● Excellent literacy and numeracy skills

● A relevant Teaching Assistant qualification is desirable

● Understanding of the strategies needed to support and manage effectively the learning of students with additional needs

● Experience of supporting pupils working towards targets set on their individual learning plans

● Experience of establishing successful learning relationships with a variety of children

● Experience of helping support learners becoming independent

● Experience of supporting young people with dyscalculia, dyslexia and dyspraxia

● Experience of supporting young people with particular difficulties in Maths

● Experience of using literacy programmes to help improve reading and spelling ability

The hours of work for this post will be between 9am and 4pm, Monday to Friday, during term-time only. There may be additional meetings / school trips that you may be required to attend. This will be discussed during the interview process.
