An exciting opportunity has arisen at Lufton College, Yeovil, and we are now recruiting for a dedicated passionate individual to join our clinical team as the Senior Mental Health Practitioner. This is a new role at the college to support students' mental and emotional health.
Cambian Lufton College is rated ‘Good’ in all areas from Ofsted. The college is an independent provider of specialist further education and residential care in the South West, and part of the Care-Tec group. We offer day and residential placements for young people aged 16 to 25 years, supporting students with autism spectrum disorder, moderate to severe learning disabilities, and a range of behavioral, emotional, and medical needs. Students will have an Education, Health & Care Plan (EHCP) reflecting their learning disabilities and support needs. The College is registered with both the Care Quality Commission (CQC) and Ofsted, undertaking regular inspections and quality assurance.
Our teams of highly skilled education, care, and clinical staff deliver an outstanding personal, social, and vocational experience tailored to individual needs. The College focuses on preparing young people for adulthood by equipping them with life skills, supported by therapeutic professionals and partnerships with local education providers and employers.
Job Role
We seek a creative, dynamic, and enthusiastic individual to work within our wellbeing clinical team, which includes a Consultant Psychiatrist, Speech and Language Therapist, Occupational Therapist, Holistic Therapist, School Nurse, and Therapy Assistants. The role involves supporting the emotional and mental health needs of learners through direct or indirect therapeutic interventions, sharing knowledge through workshops and training for care and education teams.
Therapeutic Assessment and Intervention Opportunities
Main duties include:
* Providing mental health triage, assessments, and clinical interventions based on NICE guidance.
* Reviewing and meeting EHCP statemented needs.
* Supporting psychiatrists in managing students with emotional or mental health issues.
* Supporting students in crisis, modeling good practice, and providing short-term interventions.
* Acting as a link between care, education, and external agencies for mental health.
* Facilitating groups to promote mental and emotional health.
Manage your caseload, attend multidisciplinary meetings, contribute to reports, and supervise other practitioners if applicable.
The ideal candidate is confident, autonomous, passionate about working with young people, and knowledgeable about supporting complex mental health needs. You should have experience in risk assessment and management, with excellent communication skills.
Requirements:
* Senior Mental Health Practitioner registered with NMC (RMN/RLDN) or HCPC.
* Minimum 2 years’ experience.
* Experience in CAMHS or educational settings.
* Person-centered approach and commitment to evidence-based care.
* Good decision-making and organizational skills.
* Effective communication skills and autonomous practice.
Beneficial skills include group consultation, workshop leadership, managerial experience, and working with individuals with autism or learning difficulties.
