Quality Engineer – Automotive (IATF 16949)

A well-established UK manufacturer in the automotive sector is seeking an experienced, technically strong Quality Engineer. This role is ideal for someone with deep knowledge of IATF 16949 (or TS 16949), proven experience resolving customer concerns, and the confidence to lead structured problem-solving activities in a fast-moving production environment.
Overview of the Role
You will act as a key quality specialist within the business, taking ownership of customer issues, driving 8D investigations, managing APQP documentation, and ensuring all quality processes are delivered to recognised automotive standards. This position suits a disciplined, hands-on engineer with strong technical understanding and excellent communication skills.

Key Responsibilities

Lead quality engineering activities across manufacturing, suppliers, and customer interfaces.

Drive full 8D investigations, ensuring robust root-cause analysis and validated corrective actions.
*
Manage customer complaints and provide confident, accurate updates to major automotive clients.
*
Own APQP activities including FMEAs, Control Plans, PPAP submissions, and supporting documentation.
*
Conduct internal audits and support supplier assessments (Lead Auditor training essential).
*
Maintain compliance with IATF 16949 requirements and customer-specific standards.
*
Support continuous improvement initiatives and provide technical guidance to junior quality staff.
Experience Required
*
Strong experience as a Quality Engineer within automotive manufacturing.
*
Comprehensive understanding of IATF 16949 or TS 16949, ideally Lead Auditor trained.
*
Excellent problem-solving capability with proven 8D leadership experience.
*
Solid working knowledge of APQP, PPAP, FMEA, Control Plans, MSA and Core Tools.
*
Ability to interpret technical drawings, assess risk, and advise on process capability.
*
Confident communicator capable of representing the business to demanding customers.
*
Knowledge of coatings or surface treatments is desirable but not essential
