This role offers the chance to work with cutting‑edge technologies, like Oracle APEX and MuleSoft, contributing to systems that support organ and tissue donation and transplantation across the UK. You’ll help modernise legacy systems, manage servers on‑premises and in Azure cloud, and contribute to DevOps practices.
Responsibilities
* Produce and maintain high‑quality documentation for all NHSBT and in‑house applications.
* Research emerging technologies, products, and tools, highlighting opportunities and advantages to the Head of OTDT PC and wider team.
* Maintain and improve existing applications by gathering requirements, identifying enhancements, and facilitating workshops.
* Support the Head of OTDT PC in developing NHSBT’s digital and development strategy, aligned with organisational goals and values.
* Promote analytical and technical skill development through training and guidance for OTDT PC and NHSBT staff.
* Advise on and support procurement, implementation, and management of third‑party systems, working with suppliers to ensure effective integration with NHSBT systems.
* Collaborate with the Business Intelligence and Data Management Department to deliver software, database solutions, and technical support.
You will be required to travel and spend time away from base, which will involve working irregular hours and overnight stays when required, with prior notice.
Qualifications & Experience
* Direct proven experience of software development methodologies and database design, in Oracle PL/SQL & Oracle APEX.
* Extensive knowledge and experience of the design, development, management and maintenance of information systems across an organisation.
* Specialised knowledge of software architectures across a wide range of industry standard platforms.
* Experience of working with Microsoft Office packages (Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams and PowerPoint).
* MSc or equivalent advanced knowledge and substantial proven experience to Masters level in software development, with experience in Oracle SQL Complex Queries, PL/SQL, Advanced Queues, ORDS & Oracle APEX.
* Other mandatory skills: Estimation methods, Agile/Lean and Traditional Methodologies, HTML, JavaScript, JQuery, XML, XSD, JSON, APEXSec. Knowledge of Mulesoft API integration is desirable.
* Demonstrates commitment to own continued professional development (CPD).
