999 Telephone Triage Nurse / Paramedic – Emergency Operations Centre
Band 6 NHS Agenda for Change £39,959-£48,117 per annum. Location: Medway (East) & Crawley (West). Employment: Permanent – Part‑time & Full‑time positions available.
We’re looking for experienced and compassionate clinicians to join our Clinical team in the Emergency Operations Centre (EOC). This is an exciting opportunity to work at the heart of our “virtual care” model – providing remote clinical assessment, triage and advice to ensure patients get the right care at the right time.
Responsibilities
* Provide remote clinical assessments, onward referrals or home management advice using clinical decision support software and other IT systems for patients presenting to the 999 service.
* Support and coach Emergency Medical Advisors (EMAs) and ambulance resource dispatch teams within the EOC.
* Clinically assess, prioritise and manage incidents to ensure patient safety and appropriate allocation of resources.
* Communicate effectively with patients, carers, colleagues and other healthcare professionals, using negotiation skills as required to coordinate the best care and facilitate referrals as appropriate.
* Act as a point of clinical leadership and decision‑making within the EOC, including safeguarding and capacity/consent decisions.
Qualifications and Experience
Applicant must be an experienced and compassionate clinician, currently holding a Band 5 Adult Nursing post or a Band 6 paramedic/nurse, with the ability to progress to Band 6. Permanent full‑time or part‑time contracts are required. Applicants must be willing to work a variety of shifts, including evenings, nights, weekends and bank‑holidays.
Training and Mentoring
Full time training commitment of 8.5 weeks:
* 8.5 weeks full‑time NHS Pathways 999
* 2 weeks NHSP Training
* 1 week CAD training (Monday‑Friday)
* 2 weeks EMA mentoring (shift work)
* 1 week NHSP clinician training (Monday‑Friday)
* 2 weeks mentoring (shift work)
Training is full time (37.5 hours per week) regardless of part‑time or full‑time status. Attendance is mandatory; failure to comply may result in termination of employment.

Working Conditions
Fully office‑based role at NHS 111/999 contact centres in Medway, Kent or Crawley, West Sussex. Due to 24/7 shift patterns, including nights, applicants must live within approximately 45‑60 minutes commuting distance; applications outside this distance will not be progressed. Flexible shift patterns are required; unsocial hours are payable in addition to the salary quoted.
