Overview

We are looking for a dynamic, motivated and enthusiastic Palliative Medicine Consultant to join the Trafford Community Specialist Palliative Care Team. An exciting opportunity has arisen for a substantive community consultant post based with Trafford Community Specialist Palliative Care Service and linking with Moya Cole (formerly St. Ann's) Hospice including Hospice Out-patient session and Hospice 2nd On-call.

This post has an NHS contract held by Trafford Local care Organisation, with an honorary contract with Moya Cole Hospice. Palliative Medical governance and Consultant support will be through Moya Cole Hospice.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

* MBBS / MB ChB or equivalent medical qualification
* MRCP or equivalent
* Full registration with GMC and licence to practice
* CCT in Palliative Medicine (or within 6 months at the time of interview) or Certificate of Eligibility for Specialist Registration (CESR)

Desirable

* MD / PhD

Experience / Knowledge

Essential

* Training and work experience in Specialist Palliative Medicine in hospital, hospice and community settings
* Work experience in Oncology and the community setting
* Expert knowledge and experience of symptom control in malignant and non-malignant conditions
* Ability to take full and independent responsibility for clinical care of patients at consultant level
* Understanding of current NHS initiatives related to palliative and end of life care.
* Up to date knowledge of relevant literature.

Desirable

* Specialist interest in a field within specialist palliative care

Personal Skills

Essential

* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with patients and other healthcare professionals
* Ability to form good professional relationships with patients and staff and work effectively within a multi-disciplinary team
* Time management skills and ability to organise and manage patient priorities and workload
* Strong clinical and strategic leadership skills
* Demonstrates flexible approach with ability to motivate others
* IT skills
* Commitment to MDT working and to be an enthusiastic team member

* Advanced communication skills training

Training

Essential

* Experience in leading education and training at undergraduate and postgraduate level
* Commitment to supporting education within the multi-disciplinary team
* Experience of supervising junior colleagues

* Teaching qualification

Clinical Governance

Essential

* Participation in and leadership of audits and quality improvement projects
* Publications relevant to Palliative Medicine
* Ability to apply research outcomes to clinical problems
* Core research skills with ability to embrace a research culture
* Understanding of clinical risk management

* Peer reviewed research publications
* Ability to supervise postgraduate research

* Evidence of continuing professional development
* Car owner with full driving licence
