Mechanical Technician

Overview:
A long-established and growing engineering manufacturer based near Pickering, North Yorkshire, is looking to appoint a Mechanical Technician to join its dedicated production team. The organisation operates within a specialist technical sector, producing robust mechanical and hydraulic systems that are deployed in challenging operational environments across the globe.
The role offers the chance to work on complex, high-specification assemblies in a clean, well-equipped workshop environment. This is a hands-on position suited to someone with a background in mechanical assembly, automotive maintenance, or hydraulic systems.
Role Purpose:
To assemble, test, and commission a range of mechanical and hydraulic equipment, subassemblies, and components to meet build and quality specifications.
Key Responsibilities:
* Mechanical assembly of precision-engineered components and systems.
* Functional and pressure testing of completed builds and subassemblies.
* Manufacture and installation of hydraulic pipework and hose systems.
* Interpretation of technical drawings and test procedures.
* Cross-department collaboration to ensure quality and deadlines are met.
* Accurate completion of build documentation (e.g. timesheets, ECNs, NCRs).
* Maintain good housekeeping and workshop safety standards.
* Support workshop upkeep and contribute to process improvements.
* Follow all relevant safety procedures and risk assessments.
* Carry out other duties in line with operational requirements.
Skills & Experience:
Essential:
* Practical mechanical experience in assembly or maintenance settings.
* Competent in using a range of hand and power tools.
* Able to read and interpret mechanical drawings and procedures.
* Clear communicator with strong teamwork skills.
* Quality-conscious with a proactive attitude and strong attention to detail.
* Willingness to learn and undertake further training.
Desirable:
* Background in automotive, agricultural, marine, or industrial mechanical roles.
* Completed a recognised mechanical apprenticeship or similar vocational pathway.
* 2–3 years' experience in a technician-level role post-apprenticeship.

* Hours: 37 hours per week (Mon–Fri)
* Overtime: Time and a half (Mon–Sat), double time (Sun)
