Environment Planning Specialist – Water Quality

We are recruiting a Water Quality Specialist to join our Integrated Environment Planning (IEP) Team in Devon, Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly (DCIS). The role is permanent, full‑time, based in Exeter, Launceston or Bodmin with a flexible hybrid model.
Responsibilities
* Review and shape water company proposals, working closely with water companies to analyse data and influence proposals.
* Lead business‑as‑usual activities to improve and maintain designated Protected Areas such as Bathing Waters and Drinking Waters.
* Collaborate with national colleagues, other local Area Teams and regulatory bodies to develop and implement water quality plans.
* Hold an incident role, keeping available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support.
* Develop, deliver and implement strategic plans for the sustainable use, protection and improvement of the local environment.
Experience & Skills
* Degree or equivalent qualification in an environmental discipline (e.g., Chemistry, Biology, Geography, Engineering, Geoscience, Ecology, Environmental Science, Sustainability, Data Science) or substantial relevant professional experience.
* Relevant environmental work experience such as water companies, environmental or engineering consultancy, regulatory roles, research, education or environmental charities.
* Technical background in water quality with understanding of current environmental pressures and solutions.
* Ability to analyse, present and communicate technical information to diverse audiences.
* Strong organisational, planning, tracking, delivery and evaluation skills.
* Effective influencing and persuasion skills with external partners.
* Experience working with water companies and knowledge of their operations.
* Membership of or pursuing membership in a relevant professional institute (e.g., CIWEM, IEMA).
