Surrey and Borders Partnership NHS Foundation Trust (SABP) has opened a new Mental Health Inpatient Service in Chertsey, Surrey. The new unit provides 64 beds with single ensuite bedrooms, two lounges and a dedicated garden for each ward, a woodland area for supervised walks, and a kitchenette lounge for staff. This role offers an exciting opportunity to be part of a multi‑disciplinary team delivering high‑quality, compassionate care within a state‑of‐the‑art facility.
Main Duties of a Mental Health Healthcare Support Worker
* Supporting Daily Living Activities – personal care, meals, nutrition and hydration, maintaining personal hygiene and dignity.
* Monitoring and Observations – carry out and record regular physical and mental health observations (e.g. mood, behaviour, vital signs), and report any concerns or changes promptly to the nursing or medical team.
* Promoting Recovery and Engagement – encourage participation in therapeutic and recreational activities and foster a positive, recovery‑focused environment.
* Communication and Relationship Building – build therapeutic, professional relationships with patients and provide emotional support through meaningful conversations.
* Maintaining a Safe Environment – contribute to safety and security of the ward, observe access and observation policy, and support patients in distress or crisis including de‑escalation.
* Documentation and Record Keeping – accurately record patient care, observations and incidents using electronic systems and ensure documentation follows trust policies and confidentiality standards.
* Teamwork and Professional Development – work collaboratively with nurses, doctors, occupational therapists, psychologists and others, and attend mandatory training to enhance skills.
