Position Overview:
The Caregiver 1 provides compassionate, attentive, and respectful care to individuals who require assistance with daily livingwhether due to age, illness, disability, or temporary need. Working in a staff accommodation, residential, or family setting, the Caregiver ensures that physical comfort, emotional well-being, hygiene, and nutrition needs are met with dignity, patience, and professionalism.
Responsibilities This position description is subject to change at any time as needed to meet the requirements of the program or company.
Assist clients with activities of daily living (ADLs), including bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, and feeding.
Monitor the health status of the client, observing changes in physical or emotional condition, and report concerns to the supervisor or medical team.
Administer prescribed medications, under supervision, and maintain accurate health logs.
Prepare and serve nutritious meals in accordance with dietary needs.
Maintain cleanliness of the client's living space, including laundry, bedding, and general tidiness.
Provide companionship, emotional support, and engage clients in suitable recreational or mental stimulation activities.
Assist with mobility, transfers, and use of assistive devices such as wheelchairs, walkers, or lifts.
Support clients in attending appointments, religious gatherings, or brief walks, ensuring safety at all times.
Uphold dignity, privacy, and respect in all caregiving interactions.
Follow emergency procedures, including first aid, evacuation, or urgent medical response.
Maintain confidentiality and uphold ethical caregiving standards.
Comply with all workplace safety, hygiene, and health protocols.
Qualifications Minimum Qualifications:
Education/Certifications:
KCSE certificate minimum.
Certificate in Caregiving, Nursing Aide, or Community Health Assistant from a recognized institution.
First Aid and CPR certification required.
Training in nutrition, dementia care, or physical therapy support is an added advantage.
Experience:
2+ years experience in a caregiving, nursing aide, or domestic healthcare role.
Experience in elderly care, special needs assistance, or palliative support preferred.
Familiarity with working in a live-in, rotating shift, or institutional setup (e.g., care home or site camp).
Skills:
Empathetic, patient, and emotionally intelligent.
Good communication skills, able to follow instructions and give clear updates.
Basic knowledge of hygiene, infection control, and personal care techniques.
Able to handle lifting, supporting mobility, and physical activity.
Culturally sensitive and respectful of diverse backgrounds.
Other Requirements:
Physically fit and emotionally resilient.
Able to work flexible hours, including weekends or nights, if needed.
Committed to privacy, discretion, and trustworthiness in a household or care setting.
Willing to be stationed at remote or camp sites where required.
