A data centre is a specialised facility filled with thousands of computers, servers, and networking equipment that store and process vast amounts of data. Key Job Responsibilities
* Take part in day‑to‑day operations of data centre electrical systems
* Carry out routine maintenance checks on critical power equipment
* Monitor and operate electrical distribution systems safely and efficiently
* Support emergency response procedures when required
* Learn to operate and interpret Building‑Management Systems (BMS) to monitor facility performance
* Assist in conducting equipment testing and maintenance activities
* Help maintain accurate documentation of maintenance activities
* Support the inspection and testing of emergency power systems
* Develop an understanding of cooling systems and their link to power infrastructure
* Apply problem‑solving skills to troubleshoot electrical systems with support from experienced engineers

Throughout your apprenticeship, you’ll learn how to analyse and fix power system issues, understand how different parts of the system work together, and apply important industry safety standards. You will develop both technical and practical skills, learning to work independently and as part of a team. We are seeking individuals who possess a strong technical aptitude, excellent analytical skills, and a keen attention to detail. A proactive approach to problem‑solving, effective communication skills, and a commitment to continuous learning are essential.
As part of this apprenticeship, you will work towards the Level 4 Apprenticeship Standard – Electrical Power Protection and Plant Commissioning Engineer. You will spend 20% of your time on the job learning and developing skills, while completing studies. The apprenticeship will span 36 months, beginning in September, and will comprise classroom/virtual training, on‑the‑job training at your Amazon base location, and mentoring from experienced team members.

You will need to be a UK national and be able to obtain and maintain a UK Government Security Clearance.

If successful, you will be assigned to one of our data centres within the Thames Valley region.
Basic Qualifications
* Be 18 years or over before the start date (September 2026)
* Be a UK national able to obtain UK Government Security Clearance
* Have the right to live and work in England (including visa eligibility)
* Have lived in the UK or EEA for the last 3 years
* Be a resident of the UK for the entire duration of the program
* Not be registered to study on a UK government‑funded course ending August 2026 or later
* Have at least five GCSEs at grade 4–9 (A–C) or equivalent, including Maths and English
* Have an A‑Level in STEM that includes Mathematics (grade C or above) or a BTEC Diploma in a STEM subject or Level 3 IT apprenticeship, and pass a Level 3 mathematics qualification
* Be willing and able to travel to Chester for two days per month as part of training
* If you have received educational qualifications outside the UK, provide a Statement of Comparability from UK ENIC
* Apprenticeship assumes minimal prior knowledge of the occupation
* Your qualification must be lower than the apprenticeship level (must not already hold a similar subject qualification)
