RPS, Tetra Tech is seeking a motivated Water Utilities Technician to join our Trunk Mains Conditioning / Water Quality Team. This role is ideal for candidates with a utilities background or experience in mechanical, electrical, or telecommunications disciplines who are keen to expand their skills in the water sector. You will work alongside an experienced Senior Technician, operating and surveying clean water assets and collecting samples for our client Scottish Water.
About The Team
RPS, Tetra Tech Water Consulting Scotland is a team of Engineers, Modellers, and Site Based Operations Teams providing operational support to our water industry clients. Our Stepps team carry out clean water network activities such as flow & water quality monitoring, asset surveys & operations and data monitoring equipment installations, helping gather critical operational data to maintain and improve network performance.
About You
As a key member of the Clean Water Operations business, your role as Water Technician is critical to helping us deliver great projects for our water industry clients. You will be working alongside a multi-disciplinary team of water quality experts on a range of capital delivery projects. The equipment and processes we use collect data from the water network to help identify areas at risk of potential water quality events, through WQ monitoring and planned & reactive maintenance operations. You should have the ability to remain calm under pressure, use your initiative and take ownership of tasks in an ever-changing environment.
Your Responsibilities
* Work as part of a 2-person team alongside an experienced Senior Technician operating clean water assets including valves & hydrants.
* Follow detailed design instructions, operating assets following CALM process.
* Collect water quality samples on behalf of Scottish Water, adhering to all safety and quality standards.
* Complete accurate records and submit reports using mobile data capture applications.
* Support the team with installation and maintenance of monitoring equipment as required.
* Support projects nationwide and be willing to work away from home on occasion.
* Willing to work out of hours, early starts are essential and nightshift when required on projects.
* Confident to carry out lone working, once trained to a suitable level.
Skills, Knowledge, And Experience
* Strong utilities background and willingness to learn new skills.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to complete paperwork accurately.
* Ideally, some prior experience in a clean water related role.
* Familiarity with phone applications for data capture.
* Excellent problem-solving skills and meticulous record‑keeping. Demonstrable reliability, flexibility, and a strong team ethic.
Qualifications
* Full UK driving licence.
This Role May Involve
* Moving heavy items including chamber covers and lifting equipment from van to site.
* Working in all weather conditions.
* You will be required to work on highways.
* Daily/weekly checks of equipment & vehicles.
* Please note mandatory drugs and alcohol tests are undertaken for this role and a DBS check will be undertaken.
