Personal Assistant - Preston
We are looking for a proactive, energetic, and patient Personal Assistant to support a 14‑year‑old young person to access the community and build confidence outside of the home.
The young person is autistic and currently spends most of his time at home, attending school during the week. The aim of this role is to encourage and support him to engage in activities and enjoy time out in the community, helping to improve his wellbeing and social experiences.
Duties
* Support after school and/or weekends (flexible hours)
* Encourage participation in activities such as basketball and other interests
* Suggest and plan enjoyable, suitable outings (e.g. quieter community spaces, parks, or structured activities)
* Build a trusting relationship and support gradual confidence‑building outside the home
Applicant Profile
* Enthusiastic, proactive, and creative in suggesting activities
* Calm, patient, and understanding of individual needs
* Ideally experienced in supporting young people with autism (or willing to learn)
* Able to adapt activities to suit a preference for quieter, less crowded environments
The young person has a pet cat that provides comfort and reassurance. The cat may be present during support, so applicants must be comfortable around cats and have no allergies.
The young person has expressed that they feel more comfortable being supported by a male. We therefore welcome applications from male candidates; however, all applicants will be considered based on their skills, experience, and ability to meet the needs of the role.
This is a part time position for 5 hours per week term time and 10 hours per week non term time (weekly average hours=6.35) with an hourly rate of £12.71 plus 5.6 weeks paid annual leave and workplace pension scheme.
