Job Title: Lead Primary Engineer, Location: Birmingham, United Kingdom
We are looking to secure the services of an experienced Lead Primary Engineer with a proven track record in substation engineering and project expertise relating to turnkey HV GIS/AIS substations. You will be part of Linxon Engineering Department and execute complex turnkey substation projects. In this role you provide the technical lead for the primary discipline in coordination with the remote Linxon design team, the overall project lead engineer and the project team.
Responsibilities
* Technical lead for the Linxon primary engineering team allocated to the project.
* Manage and lead all primary engineering activities from project start until the As‑Built stage, ensuring adherence to project specifications, Linxon standards, QA/QC, HSSE and integrity requirements.
* Ensure timely and quality submission of primary design packages in line with the overall project schedule and coordinate with internal stakeholders.
* Monitor primary engineering costs, report risks and manage change activities.
* Coordinate with Linxon engineering teams (local & remote) and other disciplines for primary‑related interfaces.
* Lead the review and validation of documentation related to your discipline issued by internal, external partners and sub‑suppliers.
* Complete the relevant primary sections of general project documentation, such as the Design Intent Document.
* Manage design changes according to the design change management process defined by the contract.
* Attend Design Review Meetings (DRM) and Hazard Review Meetings (HRM) as required by the Linxon project team.
* Participate in technical discussions with customers and suppliers, handle site queries and take necessary actions up to as‑built documentation.
* When tenders are involved, prepare RFQs, validate the technical content of supplier offers, and estimate the budget for resources allocated to the primary scope.
Qualifications
* Bachelor’s or master’s degree in electrical engineering or equivalent.
* Extensive experience in HV substation engineering for utilities.
* Knowledge of modern GIS and AIS substation technology.
Position‑Specific Characteristics
* Availability to travel 25% of the time (domestic/international).
* Flexibility to work in an office and on a construction site.

* Result‑oriented team player with a proactive approach.
* Excellent communication skills to interact with external and internal parties at all levels within a multicultural environment.
* Expert knowledge in substation primary design and engineering, layouts, grounding & lightning design, steel design inputs, transformers, HV & MV switchgear systems, HV & MV cable calculations, earthing calculations.
* Strong proficiency in MS Office; knowledge of MicroStation and AutoCAD is required.
* Fluency in English – written and spoken.
