Job overview

Do you have a passion for fire safety in the public sector? We are recruiting to our fire safety team and are looking for a fire safety adviser to support the delivery of fire safety improvements across the Trust.

The fire safety team are responsible for delivering fire safety improvement work across all three sites - Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital, Royal Hampshire County Hospital and Andover War Memorial Hospital. Work is varied and includes delivering fire training and drills, undertaking fire risk assessments, working with contractors, investigating near misses and incidents and providing fire safety advice in a range of clinical and non-clinical settings.

We are looking for an experienced fire safety professional who will be able to understand and interpret NHS HTM Firecode standards, balancing fire safety and clinical operational risks.

Main duties of the job

* Work as a core member of the fire safety team to develop and maintain a fire safety culture and environment which will reduce the risk of harm to patients, staff and visitors. This includes the delivery of proactive work programmes of awareness raising, risk assessments and inspections in compliance with legislative frameworks.
* Ensure that the Trust’s fire safety activities reflect national and local guidance and initiatives in relation to fire safety requirements. This includes providing assurance that the Trust is meeting statutory and regulatory requirements and where there are gaps these are clearly and robustly articulated in reports and forward mitigation plans for delivery.
* Support arrangements to ensure that appropriate policies, procedures and systems are in place to support fire safety and that robust governance processes monitor the implementation and effectiveness of compliance within and across the Trust. This includes the prioritisation of fire safety improvement works.
* Support with fire safety issues with specific reference to the NHS Firecode (HTM) standards and the requirements of the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005.

Working for our organisation

Our vision is to provide outstanding care for every patient. Patient care is at the heart of what we do at our three sites: Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital, Royal Hampshire County Hospital in Winchester and Andover War Memorial Hospital. Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust provides medical and surgical services to a population of approximately 600,000 people across Hampshire and parts of West Berkshire.

Our cultural ambition is to have a culture that places people at the heart of all we do, where we all belong, and where learning, improvement and excellence thrive.

We provide specialist services to people across the UK and internationally. We are one of only two centres in the UK treating pseudomyxoma peritonei (a rare form of abdominal cancer) and we are leaders in the field of tertiary liver cancer and colorectal cancer.

The trust employs more than 9,000 staff and has a turnover of over £500 million a year. As a Foundation Trust, we are directly accountable to our members through the governors.
