Heat Network Technician / Engineer
We are seeking a skilled Technician / Engineer to deliver technical services across heat networks nationwide, with most projects based in the London area. This is a field-based position involving regular travel and overnight stays. The role focuses on high-quality installation, commissioning, fault diagnosis and aftercare support for Heat Interface Units (HIUs), metering and billing systems. You will play a key role in ensuring compliance with industry regulations, supporting subcontractors, and maintaining efficient system performance aligned with company standards and client expectations.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Delivery
* Conduct site surveys for HIUs, metering, billing, energy efficiency and compliance assessments.
* Install and commission metering systems including AMR, data loggers, gateways, routers and M-Bus networks.
* Carry out fault‑finding, diagnostics and system optimisation across heat network assets.
* Support contractors with HIU installation and commissioning, ensuring compliance with industry standards.
* Manage warranty claims, liaising with manufacturers and clients to deliver technical resolutions.
* Produce clear technical reports, commissioning records, O&M manuals and compliance documentation.
Compliance & Safety
* Ensure full compliance with theHeat Network (Metering and Billing) Regulations 2014(as amended), CIBSE CP1 Heat Networks Code of Practice, and ESOS requirements.
* Prepare and maintain risk assessments and method statements (RAMS).
* Ensure compliance with Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015 and company health and safety policies.
* Maintain accurate site documentation to support internal and external audits.
Stakeholder Management
* Respond to consumer technical enquiries and support positive client relationships.
Measures of Success
* Timely and compliant completion of surveys, installations and commissioning activities.
* Effective resolution of technical faults, warranty claims and client enquiries.
* Demonstrable improvements in system performance and regulatory compliance.
* Successful management and development of subcontractors and operational processes.
* Full adherence to health, safety and audit standards with accurate documentation.
Skills & Experience
Essential
* Proven fault-finding, diagnostic and problem-solving capability.
* Strong project management and organisational skills.
* Excellent written reporting and documentation skills.
* Full UK driving licence.
* Willingness to travel nationwide and stay overnight where required.
Desirable
* Experience in system performance monitoring, optimisation and commissioning of HIU.
* Experience working within heat network environments.
* Strong knowledge of HIUs, heat networks, metering and billing systems, and M-Bus networks.
