Job Description
We are looking for a Senior Applied Scientist, with expertise in deep learning, to join our cross-functional Search and Recommendation team. This team plays a key role in providing the best shopping experience by surfacing the right products to customers at the right time, handling up to 8000 requests per second at peak in production. The team is responsible for the end-to-end system, ensuring high performance at ASOS's scale.
The Applied Science domain develops algorithms that power ASOS's digital ecosystem, including recommender systems and forecasting models that influence operational decisions. The team maintains, builds, and innovates in advanced machine learning, training models on unique datasets such as transactions and clickstream data.
What you’ll be doing
* Building and managing a large-scale recommender system within an agile, cross-functional team, working with vast data and deploying deep learning models into production.
* Implementing and scaling algorithms to impact the business, conducting large-scale experiments to test hypotheses and drive product development.
* Staying updated with state-of-the-art research, participating in reading groups, and publishing novel prototypes at top conferences.
* Developing and improving code and technology, contributing to new features for millions of global customers.
* Mentoring and coaching junior team members to support their technical growth.
* Participating in Tech Develops days, hackathons, and sharing knowledge to advance science and engineering.
* Promoting a culture of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion.
About You
* Experienced Applied Scientist with practical experience in recommender systems or using deep learning to solve complex problems.
* Some knowledge or experience in retail, marketing, or e-commerce is preferred. Comfortable working with cross-functional teams including non-technical stakeholders.
* Proficient in Python and familiar with deep learning frameworks like TensorFlow/Keras or PyTorch.
* Solid understanding of software development lifecycle, ML, and statistics.
* Ability to provide technical leadership, mentoring, and coaching.
* Publications in top ML conferences or journals (e.g., NeurIPS, ICLR, ICML) are a plus and demonstrate a commitment to staying current with advancements.
