Temporary Accommodation Officer
Location: Hertfordshire / Bedfordshire / Buckinghamshire
Contract: Temporary – up to 6 months.
About the role
You’ll be responsible for the day‑to‑day management of our temporary accommodation, ensuring residents receive high‑quality, person‑centred support as they work towards securing a permanent home. This is a varied, hands‑on role where no two days look the same — from managing voids and arrears to supporting residents through challenging moments and celebrating their successes.
You’ll work closely with colleagues, partner agencies and local authorities to ensure residents are safe, supported and set up for long‑term stability. You’ll also provide resettlement support for up to two years where needed.
What you’ll be doing
* Managing weekly charges, arrears and liaising with Housing Benefit teams
* Providing person‑centred support, guidance and counselling to residents
* Completing needs and risk assessments and developing support plans
* Investigating tenancy/licence breaches and issuing warnings or notices where required
* Preparing monitoring data, PIs and maintaining accurate records
* Managing terminations, voids and allocations
* Taking possession proceedings in County Court for arrears or nuisance
* Supporting residents to successfully move into permanent accommodation
* Working with referrals from Homeless Prevention and Rent Deposit Guarantee schemes
* Ensuring the safety, security and maintenance of temporary accommodation sites
* Working with caretakers/handypersons to monitor repairs and compliance
What we’re looking for
Essential
* Knowledge of homelessness, housing issues and supporting vulnerable people
* Understanding of ASTs, licences, support plans, risk assessments and housing‑related support frameworks
* Experience managing arrears, rent accounts and Housing Benefit processes
* Strong communication skills and the ability to stay calm under pressure
* Experience supporting people in difficult or stressful situations
* Ability to enforce tenancy conditions and manage challenging behaviour
* Confident representing the organisation at court or external meetings
* Ability to build strong relationships with partner agencies
* Good IT skills
* Full UK driving licence and access to a car
* Clean DBS
