Job Title: UK Electrical Design Engineer Reporting To: UK Contracts Manager Purpose: The company has an immediate vacancy for an Electrical Design Engineer to join our design and delivery team, focusing on the specification, design, assembly, installation and commissioning of electrical equipment on our projects. Suitability: The role would suit a flexible, enthusiastic and organized individual with a strong work ethic, inquisitive mind and water industry background. They will need to be self-motivated, a good communicator and willing to work in a small business environment. Location: Based at our branch office in Alton, Hampshire (postcode GU34 2RQ) with hybrid working offered by agreement. There is likely to be a requirement to travel within the UK and Ireland to support our projects. Duties & Responsibilities: * Oversight of electrical, instrumentation, control and automation installation work by the company, subcontractors and suppliers. * Reviewing electrical design drawings, schedules and documents received from clients for pricing purposes. * Preparation of electrical design drawings, calculations, schedules and documents for Motor Control Centres and cable networks to local motors and instrumentation incl containment requirements. * Preparation of Functions Design Specifications (FDS) and Control Philosophies. * Review Client DNO supply characteristics, site earthing design and assess site lightning protection requirements. * Preparation of electrical design, specification and enquiry packages for inclusion in electrical subcontract enquiries. * Reviewing electrical design drawings, schedules and documents received from suppliers and subcontractors for approval and to ensure compliance with client specifications. * Adherence to required standards, policies and statutory regulations for Health & Safety. * Attendance at equipment Factory Acceptance Tests (FATs) and iFATs as required. * Inspection of systems to ensure they are installed, tested and commissioning to relevant British, ISO and client standards. * Inspecting electrical installations, co-ordinating electrical certification processes and supporting the commissioning process. * Working collaboratively with colleagues, customers, suppliers and other contractors. * Complying with all relevant Risk Assessments, Method Statements, Safe Systems of Work Plans, and working in a safe and responsible manner at all times. * Identifying and promoting new ideas and improvements to the business via the appropriate reporting mechanisms. * Attending team meetings, in person or remotely. * Supporting the operation of the branch office, especially when other workers are away or on leave * Other duties as may arise from time to time that are consistent with the job-holder’s knowledge and skills, and are needed to effectively perform the role in accordance with the company’s policies and procedures. Key Skills & Experience: * Engineering, science or similar to degree, HND, HNC or equivalent level. * Minimum three years’ postgraduate experience in a similar role within the utilities sector and/or M&E engineering environment. * Candidates should have experience of industrial / commercial electrical and ICA design, assembly, installation, testing and commissioning, ideally in the water sector. * Candidates should have experience of Motor Control Centre (MCC) / Electrical Panel design and associated calculations and associated design documentation preparation. * Experience in specific Low Voltage (LV) and Extra Low Voltage (ELV) systems – including conditioning, conversion and interpretation plus digital I/O, relay control logic and instrumentation. * Experience of working as an NIC-EIC Competent Person would be an advantage. * Good communication skills, able to interact effectively with Clients and colleagues. * Experience within the UK water industry is a distinct advantage. * Willingness to travel regionally and nationwide (including overnight stays), and to the Company's Group headquarters in Ireland as required. * Full driving licence, any existing endorsements must be declared in the application.
