There is an exciting opportunity to join Bellway, one of the UK’s largest house builders. Our Southern Counties Division, located in Redhill is looking to recruit an Assistant Buyer to join the Division’s Commercial department.
The Role
Reporting to Regional Director, the role of Assistant Buyer supports with the day to day monitoring of procurement costs for the division, compliance with group purchasing arrangements, collection of rebates and the setting and monitoring of materials budgets to deliver the business unit output in the most timely, efficient and cost effective manner possible.
Principal accountabilities of the role include:
1. Assist with the procurement of all directly purchased materials and hired plant to deliver new homes in accordance with the regional forecast. Including taking off and scheduling materials from working drawings where required.
2. Placing orders for bulk materials and dealing with site generated requisitions.
3. Liaising with suppliers to ensure best value is achieved.
4. Managing individual workload on a daily / weekly basis.
5. Assist with preparing and updating materials budgets for individual developments.
6. Assist with the production of various KPI reports such as site damage, plant use and site waste.
7. Managing individual workload on a daily / weekly basis.
8. Ensuring compliance with Bellway Group Procedures in all instances.
Experience, Qualifications and Skills
Experience
9. Previously held Buying role with knowledge of take offs, schedules and budgets required.
10. Ideally, this will be with a housebuilder or large construction organisation however we welcome applications from all sectors of the construction industry.
Qualifications and Training
11. Current CSCS card or equivalent
12. GCSE English and Mathematics grade A-C/4+ or equivalent
13. Ideally educated to relevant HNC / Degree standard although this is not essential if suitable experience can be demonstrated.
Skills and Aptitude
14. Strong communication and listening skills
15. Excellent attention to detail
16. Ability to work on own as well as part of a team
17. IT literate, proficient in MS Word and Excel with the ability to adapt to new systems
18. Ability to work to deadlines under pressure
19. Able to communicate effectively with a variety of stakeholders at all levels

21. Willing to be flexible in respect to day to day duties and hours worked.
22. Office based role, with travel within the Divisional area.
23. Ability to travel to development sites as and when required.
