Wage

£15,311.40 for your first year, then could increase depending on your age

O/T paid at time and a half; Subsistence paid for away workingPay reviews carried out mid-September annually and at completion of training

Training course Floorlayer - textile and resilient (level 2)

Hours Monday to Thursday 8am to 4.30pm Friday 8am to 3.30pm there is some variability in hours (early starts) depending on site access, some evening and weekend working, overtime and working away is available throughout the year as required

Work

Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.


What you'll do at work

You will work in mainly commercial buildings alongside an experienced worker to carry out preparation & installation works.

You will be expected to assist with:

-Measuring floor space & estimating the quantity of materials needed
-Uplifting old flooring
-Cleaning, levelling & preparing the sub floor
-Installing underlays for a range of floorcoverings
-Installing various floorcoverings (carpet, luxury vinyl tiles, sheet resilient flooring) to industry standards
-Creating joins in a range of floor coverings

Training course

Floorlayer - textile and resilient (level 2)

* Comply with health and safety regulations, standards and guidance.
* Select and use safety control equipment, use personal protective equipment (PPE) and respiratory protective equipment (RPE).
* Verbally communicate with others: For example, employers, colleagues, clients, other trades.
* Use written or digital methods to communicate with others.
* Calculate material quantities, qualities and select required resources.
* Select and use textile and resilient floorcovering tools and equipment.
* Remove and dispose of existing floorcovering.
* Isolate, protect and prepare the work area.
* Test the subfloor condition prior to the application of the smoothing compound and fabricated underlayment: for example, remove surface contaminants and laitance, mix and apply moisture control systems, application of primers.
* Prepare the sub floor for the floorcovering: for example, installation of fabricated underlayments, mixing and application of smoothing compounds, installation of sheet membranes.
* Interpret and use information from drawings, specifications, work instructions.
* Carry out remedial works on textile and resilient flooring.
* Comply with environmental and sustainability regulations, standards, and guidance. Segregate resources for reuse, recycling and disposal.
* Carry out pre-user checks, use and maintain plant and equipment. Escalate defects or faults.
* Store tools, materials and equipment.
* Measures, marks and sets out floorcoverings.
* Use of tools and equipment required for the preparation and installation of resilient and textile floorcovering including setting out, stretching, cutting, adhesives, joining and finishing.
* Determine correct textile pile direction for the installation area.
* Carry out pattern matching for textile or resilient floorcovering.
* Apply installation techniques for underlayments for textile floorcoverings.
* Applies installation technique for resilient sheet for example tiled, flat fit, site formed (cap and cove) and joins.
* Applies installation techniques for textile floorcovering, for example woven secondary backed, broadloom sheet.
* Applies installation techniques for finishing accessories for example, thresholds, skirtings, profiles, stair nosings and trims.
* Set out horizontal, inclined, stepped and shaped or coved surface, patterned and non-patterned materials.
* Resolves problems with timber subflooring prior to a flooring installation.

You will achieve the Level 2 Floorlayer Apprenticeship Standard by attending CP Assessments Training Centre in Denaby Main, Doncaster to undertake 10 block-release training sessions (4 days), every 10 weeks.

The successful candidate will work towards their Functional Skills in both maths and English if they have not achieved this prior or have an equivalent.

Apprentices will also get an Apprentice CSCS card which can be upgraded on completion of the apprenticeship.


Requirements

GCSE in:

Share if you have other relevant qualifications and industry experience. The apprenticeship can be adjusted to reflect what you already know.

Other requirements

Heavy lifting of materials is essential. May be the need to work away from home on occasions.
