Job Summary

Consultant Paediatrician (with a special interest in Neurodisability)

Joint Post - NELFT & Great Ormond Street Hospital

CONTRACT: 10 Programmed Activities (10 PAs) Flexible working available

BASE: 79 Axe Street, Barking, Essex IG11 7LZ

This post is a joint Consultant Paediatrician position in the Barking and Dagenham Community Team, based at 79 Axe Street, Barking, IG11 7LZ, and in the Neuro Disability Team at Great Ormond Street Hospital.

This is a full-time post of 10 Programmed Activities (PAs) with 7.5 Direct Clinical Contact (DCC) activities and 2.5 Supporting Professional Activities (SPAs).

Job Responsibilities

* Provide senior medical support to a multidisciplinary specialist team providing care to children and young people with health needs across Barking & Dagenham.
* Work with a large community paediatric team (30+ paediatricians) across North East London Foundation Trust.
* Provide guidance and supervision to the team, work directly with babies, children, young people and families, and liaise with external health providers and acute hospitals.
* Develop and strengthen links with tertiary and local acute trusts to deliver specialist services within the community.
* Spend one day a week (2 PAs) with the Movement Disorder Service at GOSH (Wolfson Neurodisability Service), joining a morning clinic and participating in educational activities and administration in the afternoon.
* Participate in a daytime on‑call rota 9am‑5pm for child protection medical examinations.


Person Specification - Qualifications (Essential)

* MRCPCH by examination or equivalent.
* Full GMC registration.
* On the GMC's Specialist Register or within six months of CCT at the time of scheduled interview.
* CCT/CCST or equivalent accreditation in Community Paediatrics or equivalent training and experience.


Person Specification - Clinical Experience and Training (Essential)

* At least 2 years General Professional Training in paediatrics.
* At least 3 years Higher Specialist Training, including 2 years in Community Paediatrics, or ability to demonstrate competencies equivalent to the Highest Specialist Paediatric Training.
* Training in Neurodisability.
* Valid Level 3 Safeguarding Training.
* Valid BLS Training.


Person Specification - Specific Clinical Skills (Essential)

* Experience with neuro‑disability and neurodevelopmental paediatrics.
* Experience in safeguarding/children in care where there are concerns of emotional, physical abuse, and neglect.
* Approved training in Child Protection / Safeguarding at Level 3 of the Intercollegiate guidelines.
* Level 3 competencies in the Intercollegiate guidelines Knowledge, skills, and competences for Children in care.
* Experience working in a multi‑disciplinary team and with multi‑agency partners.
* Experience working with families living with significant levels of deprivation and understanding of working in a multicultural community.
