North Yorkshire Council is looking for an experienced Senior Planning Officer to join our Development Management team.

About the role

The role involves the provision of planning advice and managing a caseload of planning applications and related consents, including planning applications and appeals submitted under the Town and Country Planning Acts and other related legislation. In addition to attending Planning Committees and other relevant groups to present agenda items and represent the service.

The post holder will help to deliver a proactive, customer focused and compliant 'end- to-end' development management service that meets statutory requirements. Including contributing to the delivery of excellent performance and customer service, planned outcomes, targets and objectives and continuous improvement.

Duties and responsibilities

* Manage all aspects of development management, ensuring timely, high-quality planning decisions and their effective implementation.

* Handle a varied caseload, including pre-application enquiries, planning applications, consents, and appeals under relevant legislation.

* Provide expert planning advice to colleagues, stakeholders, and the public.

* Represent the service at Planning Committees, site visits, and public meetings, presenting reports and acting as the Authority's Planning Witness when required.

* Assess applications in detail, advising on site suitability, policy compliance, sustainability, and design quality.

* Prepare appeal statements and related documentation as needed.

* Stay up to date with planning regulations, policies, and best practices.

* Undertake additional duties as directed, in line with the role and grade.

Knowledge and Experience

* Degree, Post-Graduate Degree or master's in planning or related subject

* Eligible for Membership of RTPI

* Evidence of working on major and complex cases.

* Able to demonstrate an excellent knowledge of planning legislation and regulations.

* Ability to organise workloads and manage time work to strict deadlines.
