Senior Structural Engineer – Energy Sector
Location: Newcastle | Hybrid or Remote | Salary: Up to £50,000 (Dependent on experience)
My client is seeking a highly capable Senior Structural Engineer to join their team and lead the delivery of technically excellent, compliant, and efficient structural designs across a variety of high-impact energy projects. This role involves working on a multimillion-pound framework, ensuring work for the next 10 years. The projects include detailed design of substations and converter stations within the grid/SSE framework, HVDC projects, and large portal frame buildings on energy sites.
They are a leading global engineering services firm, respected for multidisciplinary expertise, commitment to sustainability, and innovative design. This is a senior-level role working alongside the Principal Structural Engineer.
Responsibilities:
* Take ownership of critical aspects of structural design, ensuring quality, compliance, and alignment with client and regulatory requirements.
* Lead and coordinate structural design within a multidisciplinary team, ensuring seamless integration with other engineering disciplines.
* Act as the primary structural engineering contact for clients on project matters.
* Support the Principal/Lead Structural Engineer in managing design budgets, tracking team performance, and contributing to contractual and financial project management.
* Produce and review detailed technical designs, specifications, and reports adhering to quality standards.
* Apply knowledge of material behaviour, construction techniques, and standards to develop practical, sustainable, and innovative solutions.
* Prepare design presentations, feasibility studies, and conceptual drawings to communicate ideas effectively.
Requirements:
* Chartered Engineer (CEng) or on track for imminent chartership.
* Strong command of structural analysis, using both traditional calculations and software, with awareness of limitations.
* Excellent understanding of structural materials and selection based on design needs.
* Hands-on knowledge of construction practices, temporary works, sequencing, and site operations, ideally with site experience.
* Proficiency in interpreting codes of practice, standards, and regulations.
* Effective communicator and presenter, capable of conveying technical ideas through reports, sketches, and visual media.
