Process Engineer – Grinding Specialist
Location: Leicester
Circa £45,000 + Benefits
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Process Engineer with specialist expertise in grinding to join a leading manufacturer of precision-engineered components.
This is a hands-on role where you will act as the technical lead for grinding operations, ensuring robust, efficient, and repeatable processes are in place. You will work closely with the Engineering Manager and production teams to embed best practice, support continuous improvement projects, and introduce new methods that drive quality and consistency.
Key Responsibilities
* Develop, optimise, and standardise grinding processes including CNC centreless grinding, manual centreless grinding, and diamond dressing
* Define correct wheel speeds, feeds, and dressing techniques to maintain high levels of accuracy and surface finish
* Create and implement clear operating procedures to support operators and ensure right-first-time performance
* Provide training and coaching to production teams on grinding techniques and process improvements
* Support the introduction of new projects, challenging existing methods and identifying smarter, more efficient solutions
* Contribute to automation initiatives, including robotic loading and process data integration
* Collaborate with colleagues across finishing departments (thread rolling, stamping, etc.) to align best practice and engineering support
About You
* Strong background in precision grinding operations, with experience in centreless grinding (CNC and manual) and diamond dressing techniques
* Solid understanding of tooling, fixtures, speeds, feeds, and wheel trimming
* Confident in interpreting engineering drawings and tolerances
* Practical problem solver with the ability to simplify and standardise complex processes
* Comfortable working with ERP systems and CAD software (SolidWorks experience an advantage)
* A positive team player with strong communication skills and a proactive mindset
