An opportunity has arisen within the Gastroenterology Department at Musgrove Park Hospital for a Lead IBD Specialist Nurse who will support the team to deliver a robust IBD services to the people of Somerset.
You will be responsible for providing clinical leadership for the IBD teams and supporting service excellence for patient care. You will be inspiring a culture of compassionate care for our IBD patients. S/he will be accountable for the professional practice and development of IBD nursing and patient care. You will have expert specialist knowledge and provide clinical advice and support for patients with IBD.
This is an exciting and rewarding post for the right person and you are encouraged to arrange an informal visit with the matron and Lead IBD Consultant prior to interview.
You will be an integral member of the established IBD team and will work alongside the existing IBD Lead consultant and clinical service manager to help to lead and develop the service currently offered.This post would be suitable for a Registered nurse with significant post registration experience predominantly working within IBD and gastroenterology. Leadership skills and management experience is essential in addition to having a passion within the subject area. Service development and quality improvement experience is desirable.
Full time and Part time hours will be considered.
Main duties of the job
* Manage and lead the Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) specialist service with responsibility for ensuring high quality, cost-effective healthcare. To Manage and lead a workforce of specialist nurses.
* Act as a Lead Specialist and demonstrate a high level of expertise within the IBD service, providing support, advice and education to patients and other health professionals.
* Be involved in the strategic review of clinical services as appropriate, and contribute to the ongoing development of clinical practice, policies, protocols and guidelines with multidisciplinary colleagues.
* Be responsible for implementing a clearly defined integrated approach to patient care encompassing new treatments and evidence-based care.
* To provide visible, strong leadership, and act in any current Specialist roles as a clinical resource ensuring the sustained delivery of high standards to our patients. The post holder will be required to manage their time in both clinical and management responsibilities.

Essential
* Current NMC Registration
* Relevant nursing/health degree/diploma level supplemented by short courses to postgraduate study or MSc or working towards in a relevant subject or demonstrable extensive experience in the relevant specialty.
* Independent Non-Medical Prescriber
* Evidence of working within a medical/surgical gastrointestinal specialty
* Evidence of gastrointestinal ward work (Medical/Surgical)
Knowledge
Essential
* Up to date knowledge of current clinical and professional issues in IBD
* Knowledge of assessing and interpreting the care needs of IBD patients
* Established teaching skills

* Basic knowledge of audit, research and evidence based care
