Job Summary
We are looking for a consultant in Cellular Pathology to join the Pathology Clinical Support Unit at St. James's University Hospital, part of Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. The role will support dental, head & neck and endocrine pathology services across the Trust and region, and provide teaching and research opportunities.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide a timely and reliable cellular pathology service in collaboration with colleagues, covering head & neck, dental, endocrine and relevant cytopathology specimens.
* Participate in the review service and multidisciplinary clinical care, maintaining regular multidisciplinary team meetings.
* Offer clinical advice, support and audit involvement to improve patient care effectiveness.
* Support training and professional development of junior staff and postgraduate trainees in cellular and sub‑specialised pathology.
* Take part in national and regional audit schemes, EQA participation and CPD activities.
* Contribute to postgraduate and undergraduate teaching as required.
* Assist with laboratory accreditation processes (UKAS/HTA) and service improvement initiatives.
* Cover colleagues on leave and engage in flexible working arrangements if needed.
* Create and continue research and development work within the Trust, including clinical trial involvement.
Person Specification
Essential Qualifications
* FRCPath or equivalent qualification.
* Full GMC or GDC registration with a licence to practice.
* Eligibility to work in the UK and up to date with professional registration.
* Entry on the GMC Specialist Register or GDC specialist list for Oral & Maxillofacial Pathology (or equivalent).
Essential Experience
* High level of clinical experience and competence in cellular pathology.
* Specialist training and experience in head & neck, dental and endocrine histopathology, including molecular testing interpretation.
* Evidence of continuous career progression and regular participation in clinical audit.
* Experience in teaching undergraduate and postgraduate medical/dental staff.
* Experience of supervising research and training junior staff.

* Strong communication skills for multidisciplinary collaboration.
* Capacity to work flexibly and cover leave periods.
