Our client, a leading construction company with operations across Ireland, the UK, and Northern Europe, specialises in Critical Environments such as Data Centres, Life Sciences, Aviation, High Value Manufacturing, and Critical Logistics. They are currently seeking experienced and talented Environmental Health and Safety Advisors to join their high-performing project teams.
Purpose of Role
The Environmental Health & Safety Advisor is responsible for establishing, developing, and directing the implementation of the HS&E strategy on projects. The role ensures that a positive safety culture is maintained and that the company is established as an industry leader in Health, Safety, and Environmental compliance.
Main Responsibilities:
1. Support the EHS Manager/Lead and project teams in developing and implementing the safety management system and safe systems of work in line with statutory obligations.
2. Work closely with the operational team to develop and monitor safe systems of work and risk assessments, ensuring all project activities are adequately planned and executed.
3. Conduct audits and reporting, ensuring projects are audited, EHS indices are tracked, and non-conformances are addressed.
4. Lead and influence EHS culture across projects.
5. Support and engage the workforce in identifying occupational health, safety, and environmental risks, and coach them in risk mitigation.
6. Promote and reinforce positive attitudes and behaviours amongst the workforce.
7. Ensure projects operate in compliance with all statutory requirements and best practices.
8. Advise on health and safety-related issues from pre-construction to project completion.
9. Attend start-up meetings with site teams and actively participate.
10. Implement company policies, procedures, and management systems.
11. Provide advice, guidance, and instruction in all EHS matters to management, safety representatives, and employees, including subcontractors where appropriate.
12. Assist the EHS Manager in accreditation applications, auditing, and reporting.
13. Facilitate internal and external inspections/audits and ensure timely closure of any arising issues.
14. Conduct regular inspections and site audits, reporting findings to site and senior company management.
15. Support, coordinate, and lead (as necessary) the investigation of incidents, ensuring effective learning outcomes and timely closure of actions.
16. Produce high-quality reports and identify training requirements, delivering appropriate training.
17. Promote a healthy, incident and injury-free workplace and lead the implementation of a professional, competent, and knowledge-sharing culture across sites.
18. Liaise with enforcement authorities and client representatives on behalf of the company.
Job Requirements:
19. Third level qualification in EHS or a related discipline
20. Experience working on large scale commercial/construction projects
21. Highly organised and capable of managing multiple projects simultaneously
22. Conscientious, highly focused, and detail-orientated
23. Self-starter with the ability to build relationships with all stakeholders
24. Full clean driver's licence preferable
25. Excellent communication skills
