This newly configured role provides clinical input and leadership to our dementia ward at Franklyn Hospital in Exeter. The successful candidate will work under the Inpatient Psychology Professional Lead and collaborate with psychology services across the county and with Arts Psychotherapists.
Main Duties
* Develop trauma‑informed dementia care and support others in psychologically informed practice.
* Conduct extended assessments, formulation and brief interventions.
* Supervise less experienced staff, trainees and volunteers.
* Provide advice and consultancy to patients and professionals.
* Contribute to the development, implementation and evaluation of clinical strategies in multidisciplinary contexts.
* Deliver CPD and promote quality improvement initiatives.
* Ensure the systematic provision of a high‑quality psychological service in line with national guidance.

Pay & Working Hours
£55,690 to £62,682 a year pro rata (22.5 hours over 3 days per week).
Permanent, part‑time and flexible working is available.

Job Responsibilities
The principal purpose of the post is to improve the psychological health and wellbeing of people within the specialist field of practice and to support inpatient and community mental health teams to deliver high‑quality services aligned with NICE and national policy.
* Contribute a psychological perspective to leadership and service operation in inpatient settings.
* Provide clinical leadership and supervision for staff, trainees and volunteers.
* Carry a specialist caseload of clients and give advice and consultancy to patients and professionals.
* Work autonomously within professional guidelines and exercise responsibility for governance of psychological practice.
* Receive regular professional and clinical supervision in accordance with Trust policy and professional guidelines.
* Obey professional and Trust codes of conduct and ensure full registration with the HCPC or equivalent.
Qualifications
* Essential: Qualified Practitioner Psychologist (D.Clin.Psychol. or equivalent), eligible for Chartered Status in the British Psychological Society, and registered with the HCPC.
* Desirable: Further training or experience in relevant clinical specialism, neuropsychological assessment or additional psychological therapy modalities.
Experience
* Essential: Experience working in older people mental health services, community and inpatient settings, leadership roles in psychology services, and experience with complex trauma.
* Desirable: Experience with neuropsychological assessment and advanced group therapy approaches.
Knowledge & Skills
* Essential: Excellent verbal, non‑verbal and written communication; strong leadership and resilience; conflict management; organisational and time‑management; advanced assessment and formulation skills.
* Desirable: Project management skills.
