We have an exciting opportunity for Registered Adult Nurses, who already have a relevant degree, to study Midwifery at Masters level.
You will have the opportunity to undertake MSc Midwifery (shortened course) whilst working with our Midwifery Team. This course will provide you with the knowledge and skills to become a registered Midwife.
Please note this is a fixed term contract for the duration of the MSc programme.
N.B. Salary support for the duration of the course is provided by Health Education England at a maximum salary of mid band 5 (AFC). As this is a studentship, previous salary bandings will not be matched and there are no enhanced payments for unsociable hours. Health Education England will also be funding university tuition fees for those commencing shortened midwifery training between January 2022 - April 2026 (up to a maximum of £9,250 per annum). Some students may also be eligible for a means tested maintenance loan.
The start date for the MSc Midwifery is 23rd March 2026 please ensure you are able to be released from your current role to commence this course.
Further information can be obtained through Student Finance England. Successful applicants will need to be able to travel to University of Bradford for the theoretical components of the course.
Main duties of the job
This course will enable you to become a highly-skilled, autonomous midwife. You will learn how to support, advise, and advocate for women, birthing individuals, their partners, and their families, by providing evidence-based care throughout pregnancy, childbirth and the postpartum period.
Throughout your studies, you'll be fully supported by midwifery academics and practice educators. With the support of experienced midwife lecturers and practice supervisors our students are able to develop the competencies and essential skills mandated by the Nursing and Midwifery Council to enable registration as a midwife.
This degree will build on skills and knowledge as a registered adult nurse to work as part of a multi-professional team and develop them into an autonomous registered midwife.

Experience and Knowledge
Essential criteria
1. Active registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council as a Registered Nurse (Adult) first-level status. This must be maintained to meet the NMC revalidation requirements for the duration of the course.
2. Post-registration Adult Nursing experience.
3. Knowledge of professional Midwifery issues.
4. Understanding of evidence-based practice and its application.
5. Can demonstrate an understanding of inter-agency working.
Desirable criteria
6. Management experience.
7. Knowledge of or experience in coaching and mentoring practices and tools.
8. Knowledge of or experience in quality improvement tools, techniques, and methods.
Qualifications and Skills
Essential criteria
9. First degree at 2.2 or above
10. Evidence of qualification to undertake the supervision, teaching, and assessing of students (essential requirement, the expectation will be to complete within 12 months)
11. Able to prioritise care appropriately.
12. Excellent organisational skills, ability to manage own time and prioritise time-critical procedures for patients.
13. Ability to recognise and contribute to the management of challenging situations calmly and professionally.
14. Able to take instruction and direction and work effectively as part of a team.
15. Ability to retrieve and interpret information from a variety of reliable sources.
