About Yorkshire Ambulance Service

Yorkshire Ambulance Service NHS Trust is committed to Equality and Diversity, with a range of occupational health and support services available to all staff. You will support patients, their carers and healthcare representatives, transporting them on journeys to and from healthcare appointments, and helping hospitals discharge patients when they are fit enough to leave a hospital setting. You must be able to consider each patient as an individual and meet a wide variety of communication and other needs. Most importantly, you will need to be polite, professional, and eager to make the patients experience a pleasant one. The Trust operates a formal program of ongoing staff development, with training opportunities and offers good opportunities for career progression. You will be able to join the NHS Pension Scheme and will be able to access other NHS money saving benefits for example, access to discounts in over 200 stores, days outs and restaurants by signing up to a Blue Light card.

Working for our organisation

Yorkshire Ambulance Service (YAS) NHS Trust geographically covers nearly 6,000 square miles of varied terrain, from isolated moors and dales to urban areas, coastline and inner cities. We serve a population of over five million people across Yorkshire and the Humber and strive to ensure that patients receive the right response to their care needs as quickly as possible, wherever they live. We employ more than 7,100 staff, who together with over 1,300 volunteers, enable us to provide a vital 24-hour, seven-days-a-week, emergency and healthcare service. Our ambition is to be an employer of choice, and we are continuously working across our partnership to improve our collective offer to staff in areas like health and wellbeing, benefits and flexible working.

What do our Non-Emergency Ambulance Care Assistants say about their role?

* “Every journey is different, but the best ones are where I come away feeling like I have really helped the patient. We provide such an important service for those patients with medical conditions which mean they can't get to their appointments any other way and being thanked for getting them there makes me feel like I'm doing something really worthwhile” (ACA based at Wakefield).
* “I enjoy using my skills to adapt my style of communication to individual patient needs. Sometimes I need to give a clearer explanation of the manual handling task that we are about to complete - but I find it rewarding to be able to support patients with complex mobility needs to and from the hospital” (ACA based at Huddersfield).

Benefits

* Flexible working including part-time hours, job shares and flexible hours, agile working (role dependant)
* 27 days annual leave, increasing to 33 with service.
* Contributory Pension.
* NHS Discounts including shops, restaurants, gyms etc.
* Car lease and other salary sacrifice schemes.
* Dedicated employee assistance and counselling service.
* Opportunities for research participation, career progression and ongoing development.
* Well respected, committed and supported staff networks for our workforce.
