Job Title: Learning and Engagement Facilitator
Reports to: Learning Engagement Officer & Programme and Events Manager
Location: Dudley Canal and Caverns
Hours: Adhoc / some weekend and evenings as required.
Pay: Minimum wage +5p an hour
Age: Must be 18+
Job Purpose:
To deliver fun, educational, and engaging experiences for a wide range of audiences, both on and off the water. This includes boat trip performances, interactive school workshops, and public events that bring to life the history, geology, wildlife, and heritage of Dudley Canal and Caverns. The role combines character work, storytelling, interpretation, and hands-on learning, inspiring curiosity and ensuring all visitors enjoy a safe and memorable visit.
Key Responsibilities:
Visitor Engagement & Boat Trips
* Confidently deliver entertaining and informative performances and commentary on boat trips. Be able to adapt to each audience and responses.
* Support the Skipper to ensure smooth operations and visitor safety on board as a qualified crew member, training to be provided.
* Engage with visitors in a friendly and professional manner.
* Provide feedback on visitor experiences to support programme improvement.
Learning & Workshops
* Deliver curriculum-linked workshops and interactive sessions for schools and community groups.
* Prepare materials, set up activities, and tailor sessions for a range of ages and needs.
* Support development of new learning resources, trails, and creative activities.
* Lead indoor and outdoor sessions across various site locations (e.g. Legger Suite, Biffa Gallery, Sagitta, gardens, canal).
* Assist with evaluation and reporting on educational sessions.
Events & Teamwork
* Work collaboratively with staff, volunteers, and boat crew to deliver events, workshops and activities.
* Support family days and holiday programmes as required.
* Follow safeguarding and health & safety procedures, including use of personal protective equipment.
Experience & Skills:
Essential:
* Experience working with children or young people in educational, cultural, or visitor-facing roles.
* Confident presenter with excellent communication and storytelling skills.
* Creative, adaptable, and able to lead engaging, hands-on experiences.
* Knowledge or interest in local heritage, wildlife, or environmental education.
* Strong organisational and time management skills.
* Comfortable working independently and as part of a small team.
Desirable:
* A recognised teaching or learning qualification (e.g. PGCE or equivalent).
* Experience in front-line customer service, performance, or guiding roles.

Pay: Up to £12.26 per hour
