Finance Manager
Maternity Cover - Fixed Term Contract
Colchester, Essex
Experience and proven ability in successfully managing a team, providing continuous assistance and process improvements.
Key Responsibilities:
* Team Leadership: Manage, supervise and support a team of 4, setting targets and objectives where necessary to drive success.
* Process Improvement: Collaborate with the Finance Director to identify areas that can be improved and strive to deliver,
* Procedure Development: Collaborate with the Finance Team to identify new procedures to improve daily workflows and alleviate pressure points.
* Resource Maximisation:Optimise staff resources and identify training needs.
* Reporting:Prepare and present accurate monthly management accounts to stakeholders as well as any additional reports that directors deem necessary for 4 entities.
Preferred Qualifications/Experience
* Experience: Prior experience as a finance manager or in a similar managerial role, with solid knowledge of standard accountancy and finance practices, having ideally worked with overseas companies with a knowledge of consolidated accounts.
* Qualifications: A minimum of Level 4 AAT qualified with strong analytical skills and proficiency in accounting software, Sage Intacct is an advantage.
* Leadership Skills: Proven ability to manage people effectively, understanding the needs of the team and when/if extra guidance is needed.
* Technical Proficiency: Strong understanding of business principles and a solid grasp of Microsoft applications.
Ongoing and required tasks:
Preparation of Accounts for 4 business entities:
* Ensure the preparation of timely and accurate monthly management accounts and reports for Management.
* Responsibility for all journals and final GL balances including review of month end balance sheet reconciliations, bank accounts and control accounts
* Ensure the accuracy and integrity of the companies accounting records and financial systems with the relevant accounting principles and legislation of the countries in which they operate.
Financial Management & Control
* Effectively manage the working capital components of the Companies with specific attention to billing, debtors and cash balances.
* Active management of overheads whilst seeking out areas for potential savings.
* Buying/selling currency if the need arises to ensure adequate cash flow for weekly payment runs.
* Involvement in the annual audit, providing information as and when required.
* To assist the Finance Director in respect of periodic reports required for statutory bodies relating to operational aspects of the business (i.e. Intermediary reporting)
Taxation:
* Ensure returns for Corporation tax, VAT, PAYE / NIC and other relevant taxes are submitted, payments made on time and all relevant regulations are complied with
Staff:
* Effectively manage, motivate and develop the Finance team
* Supervise & review performance of individuals in the team
* Implementation of a change management culture by challenging & replacing established processes and procedures where necessary
* Liaise with different department managers to ensure the Finance department is properly supporting the needs of the operating business and cost centres
General:
* Manage relationships with auditors, tax advisers, brokers, bankers and other parties as directed by the Finance Director.
* Keep key stakeholders up to date on progress against key milestones
* Ensure the Finance Director is kept informed of industry developments which are relevant to the operation of an efficient finance function
* Carry out any further tasks for which your qualifications & experience are suited as directed by the Company
* To develop in-depth knowledge of all Finance team aspects and company systems to provide ongoing assistance to both your team and other teams within the business.
The Person & Skills
The successful applicant will be AAT Level 4 minimum qualified with excellent skills in data analysis and presentation. You will have managerial experience and be able to support and develop a team. You will have excellent interpersonal skills as well as the ability to manage your time effectively. You will be motivated and will have the drive to develop and improve existing systems and processes to support the success of the fast paced, growing business. You will be confident in your abilities to see that the Finance team continue to effectively support the business.
