Youth Work Job Description
Job Purpose
To work with local young people through a Youth Work and nurturing approach (aged 11-25 years old) who may show challenging behaviour, supporting their personal growth through informal learning opportunities, the development of core skills and their involvement in their local community
Reporting relationships:
* Project Coordinator
* Community Worker ( Youth Services)
* Youth Worker
Key tasks and activities
· Identify and engage with young people and support them to participate in informal learning opportunities.
· When required undertake outreach work in the community to make contact with young people.
· Target socially excluded and/or disadvantaged young people to support them to access informal learning opportunities
· Actively listen to young people to establish their needs
· To support young people to be involved in the programming and running of their youth group
· Develop and carry out regular consultations with young people to enable the service to be responsive
· Support young people to use their learning to enhance their future development
· Support young people to be active citizens
· Support young people to make informed decisions
· Be committed to ongoing professional development
· Attend Youth Worker meetings
Person Specification
Essential:-
Previous Youth Work Experience (voluntary or paid)
Desirable:-
Experience of carrying out effective consultation with young people
Experience in writing funding applications and report writing
Qualifications
Food and Hygiene Certificate
First Aid Certificate
Youth Work qualification at a HNC or above level

Working Hours
24 hours per week, 4 days per week Mon, Tues, Wed and 1 other 6 hours a day (3pm – 9.15pm)
During School Holidays this may change to a day service to support young people during the holidays
Youth Worker
One team meeting every 6 weeks. Support and supervision one every three months and if new as often as needed.
