Main duties of the job
We are looking for an HCPC registered dietitian with experience of working in critical care to join our team of ICU dietitians at Southampton General Hospital on a fixed-term basis due to an internal promotion. The post holder will provide specialist nutrition support across our three adult intensive care units – general, cardiac and neurosciences as well as our surgical high care.
UHS is a tertiary centre for many services including HPB, upper GI surgery, haematology, neurology, cardiac surgery and intestinal failure, providing care for some of the South’s most critically ill patients. You will join our team of experienced critical care dietitians and a friendly, multidisciplinary team; as a member of the team, you will participate in ward rounds and MDT meetings. There will also be opportunities to engage in research trials, teaching medical and nursing staff, service evaluations, and service developments.
The department of dietetics and speech and language therapy employs approximately 130 staff, providing acute and community services in adults and paediatrics across various specialties.

What You’ll Do

You Will
* Work as an integral member of the critical care multidisciplinary teams, providing a highly specialist clinical dietetic service to patients on our intensive care units.
* Work both autonomously and within multidisciplinary teams to optimise care and implement highly specialised enteral and parenteral nutrition.
* Contribute to the development of the dietetic service to critical care.
* Facilitate the implementation of national standards and guidelines relevant to your clinical speciality.
* Undertake audit, evidence-based projects/research, and review of practice, making recommendations for future developments and clinical practice.
What We’re Looking For
We seek someone with a keen interest and significant experience in complex nutrition support and critical care, demonstrating strong clinical skills. The ability to manage a busy, complex caseload is essential, along with excellent communication and team working skills. You should be confident working within an MDT as a highly specialist dietitian and capable of presenting and discussing your professional opinions clearly.

Qualifications, Knowledge And Experience
Essential:
* Degree or equivalent in Nutrition and Dietetics
* Masters level qualification or equivalent experience
* HCPC registered dietitian (RD)
* Post-graduate training in relevant speciality
* Experience supervising staff
* Extensive dietetic knowledge and highly specialist expertise in relevant areas
* Ability to carry out anthropometric measurements and nutritional assessments
* Understanding of clinical governance and its implications
Desirable:
* Member of British Dietetic Association (BDA) and relevant groups
* Experience leading or coordinating audit or research
* Clinical supervisory skills training
