The Opportunity
As the H&S Advisor you will provide professional support and guidance to operational teams to ensure the safe delivery of work activities within a highly regulated pharmaceutical environment. The role focuses on promoting a positive health, safety and environmental culture, ensuring compliance with legislation, industry standards and internal policies.
The Role You will be responsible for ensuring legal compliance, reducing operational risk, promoting safe behaviours and enabling work to be delivered safely and sustainably. This position involves advising, coaching and monitoring site activities to reduce risk, support operational excellence, and protect employees, contractors, the public and the environment.
Your duties and responsibilities will be Compliance & Legislation
Ensure compliance with UK Health & Safety legislation, CDM Regulations, industry standards, client requirements and internal policies.
Maintain up to date knowledge of regulatory changes and best practice.
Support the active implementation of management systems and procedures.Risk Management
Assist operational teams in identifying hazards and assessing risks (RA/MS, Safe Systems of Work, Permit to Work).
Advise on control measures for high risk activities including confined spaces, excavation, buried services, lifting operations, working near/over water and temporary works.Site Support & Monitoring
Conduct regular site inspections, audits and behavioural observations.
Provide practical guidance to managers, supervisors and site teams on safe work planning and execution.
Investigate incidents, near misses and unsafe conditions, ensuring root causes are identified and corrective actions implemented.
Ensure digital reporting tools and applications are used effectivelyTraining & Engagement
Deliver toolbox talks, briefings and awareness sessions on health, safety and environmental topics.
Promote a positive safety culture through engagement, coaching and behavioural safety initiatives.
Support workforce engagement to drive strong safety outcomes.Reporting & Performance
Maintain accurate records of inspections, incidents and compliance data.
Contribute to monthly performance reporting and improvement action plans.
Support client and regulator audits, providing evidence of compliance and continuous improvement.
Deliver against published H&S targets and objectives.Collaboration & Leadership
Work closely with project managers, supervisors, subcontractors and client representatives to drive safe delivery.
Challenge unsafe behaviours or poor practice, escalating concerns where appropriate.
Act as a visible role model for strong H&S leadership.
You will have the following qualifications & experience
Understanding of construction related activities within regulated industries (desirable).
Excellent attention to detail.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Proven administrative capability.
Analytical mindset for risk assessment and incident investigation.
Competent IT skills, particularly MS Office.
NEBOSH General or Construction Certificate.
CSCS card or equivalent industry card.
Membership of a relevant professional body.
Valid UK Driving Licence.
Knowledge of CDM 2015 and its practical application.
Competence in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.It's great if you also have the following
NEBOSH Diploma / NVQ Level 5/6 in Occupational H&S.
IEMA Certificate.
First Aid at Work.
Incident investigation training (TOPSET, TapRoot, NEBOSH etc.).
Behavioural safety / Human Factors training.
Industry recognised training in high risk activities (e.g., HSG47, Temporary Works, Lifting, Excavations, Working at Height).
