Job Overview

An exciting opportunity to join the Tavistock Community Therapy Team as a Physiotherapist.

Based at Abbeyrise in the centre of Tavistock.

Livewell Southwest is an independent social enterprise delivering integrated health and social care services across Plymouth, South Hams, and West Devon.


Job responsibilities

You will work within our Therapy team alongside OTs, Assistant Practitioners and Therapy support workers.

Deliver physiotherapeutic assessment of patients with diverse or complex physical, psychological, cognitive and behavioural conditions to provide accurate diagnosis and prognosis.

Formulate and deliver an individualised physiotherapy treatment programme, including manual therapy techniques, therapeutic handling, patient education, exercises, and alternative options.

Manage professional and legal accountability, clinical risks, and maintain high standards of clinical care.

Assist in evidence‑based audit and research projects to further clinical practice.

Make recommendations for practice and service changes and support their implementation.

Supervise, educate and assess the performance of physiotherapy students in partnership with universities.

Engage with the multidisciplinary team, provide specialist advice, advice on equipment and aids, and participate in multi‑disciplinary case conferences.

Maintain competency in communication with patients, carers, and professionals, particularly where barriers exist.

Ensure compliance with confidentiality policies, child protection and vulnerable adult procedures.

All staff are expected to be able and willing to work across a 7‑day service.


Knowledge & Skills

* Substantial relevant NHS experience in orthopaedics, elderly care, medical, surgical, neurological and musculoskeletal conditions.
* Understanding of physiotherapy outcome measures.
* Competence to work autonomously and set own priorities.
* Ability to analyse professional and ethical issues.
* Supervisory and appraisal skills.
* Capacity for reflective practice and critical appraisal.
* Organisational and response to complex information.
* Knowledge of health and social care legislation, clinical governance principles.
* Presentation and training skills.
* Flexibility and ability to work under pressure.
* Application of health and safety and risk management policies.
* Knowledge of standardised and non‑standardised assessment tools.
* Knowledge of various intervention media.
* Clinical knowledge relevant to physiotherapy practice.
* Specialised skills in assessment, intervention and evaluation.
* Willingness to work flexibly across community and inpatient settings.
* Wheelchair accreditation.
* Knowledge of complex manual handling techniques and strategies.
* Leading in‑service training and education workshops for physiotherapists and other disciplines.
* Applying research to practice.
* Knowledge of national and government agendas.


Experience

* Experience within an MDT with flexible working.
* Extensive clinical experience in health and/or social care.
* Documented evidence of CPD.
* Multi‑pathology assessment.
* Home and community assessments.
* Management, leadership and supervisory skills.
* Clinical supervision and appraisal of staff.
* Risk assessment in a variety of settings.
* Assessment of posture and positioning.
* Working in and facilitating groups.


Qualifications

* Diploma / Degree in Physiotherapy.
* HCPC Registration.
* Ability to travel independently between sites.
* Recognised first‑line management/leadership qualification.
* Post‑graduate training relevant to clinical area.
* Membership of relevant special interest groups.
