The Opportunity: Due to continued business growth, we are currently recruiting for an enthusiastic and driven Project Engineer to join our HS2 team in Birmingham. The HS2 project is one of the UK’s most ambitious and high-profile infrastructure initiatives, offering a unique opportunity to be part of something truly transformative. Reporting to the Field Operations Manager, you’ll lead a team of monitoring engineers and installation technicians. If you have experience in surveying and project management this is your chance to make a significant impact in the fast-paced Geospatial industry. What will I be doing in my new role? Project & Site Management Lead the planning, coordination, and execution of installation and engineering works on HS2 projects. Work closely with the Field Operations Manager and Project Managers to develop methodologies, ensuring they integrate seamlessly into Risk Assessment Method Statements (RAMS). Ensure best practice procedures are followed and that no unauthorised workarounds are used. Attend HS2 site/client meetings, acting as the technical representative for Murphy Geospatial. Ensure all works comply with HS2 safety standards and company policies. Installation & Engineering Oversight Supervise and support installation teams, ensuring work is completed on time, to specification, and within budget. Ensure all equipment and materials are prepared and available for each project. Carry out on-site audits to ensure quality standards are met and take corrective actions when necessary. Support the development of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for HS2 installations. Work closely with field teams to ensure accurate reporting of work completed and site conditions. Compliance & Safety Champion HS2 health, safety, and environmental policies, ensuring compliance at all times. Identify and resolve H&S non-conformities, ensuring all actions are documented. Conduct toolbox talks and briefings, ensuring site teams understand all project-specific requirements, risks and control measures. Communication & Coordination Act as a point of contact between site teams and managers to ensure efficient communication. Ensure all team members attend mandatory briefings and debriefings, reinforcing accountability. Manage equipment and stock tracking, ensuring accurate logs are maintained. Ensure all technical documentation and site reports are up to date and correctly recorded. Training & Mentorship Provide guidance and technical support to installation teams and monitoring engineers. Assist in training programs for HS2 engineering teams, ensuring compliance with standards. Contribute to the development of internal training material and competency frameworks. Commercial & Strategic Input Demonstrate commercial awareness, understanding project costs and budget constraints. Support business development activities, identifying areas for efficiency improvements and cost savings. Provide technical input to project estimates and risk assessments. Requirements of the role: A minimum of 3-5 years’ experience in a similar role, preferably in HS2 or large-scale infrastructure projects. Degree in Engineering, Surveying, or a related technical field. CSCS/MSite/SMSTS or equivalent certification. Manual Handling, Health & Safety (SPA, RAMS, Lone Working, etc.). Full First Aid Qualification. Physically capable of performing on-site duties. Valid UK Manual Driving License. Ability to travel across HS2 project sites as required.
