Job summary

Barking, Havering and Redbridge University Hospitals Trust are looking for a motivated, dynamic and innovative individual to join our friendly team of therapists, providing care on the Acute medical wards at King George Hospital in Ilford, Essex. Working in a fast-paced environment, you will have the opportunity to expand your clinical skills in cardiac, respiratory and endocrinology. As a Band 6 physiotherapist in a busy team, you will be required to build a strong set of clinical skills, whilst further developing your leadership, communication and managerial skills. We have a strong commitment to continuing professional development with an established in-service training programme, regular evidence-based practice groups, and commissioned external courses identified through the trust appraisal process. You will be supported by a B8A team lead and a B7 physiotherapist. As part of a recent re-configuration of our Integrated Therapy service structure, we have moved in line with the Government agenda for the NHS providing a 7-day service covering the Medical and Elderly Receiving Unit and Elderly Short Stay Unit in order to achieve the highest quality of care for our patients. We are looking for a person who will enjoy the benefits of this working pattern. If you have the skills outlined above and want a rewarding opportunity where you will be encouraged to influence and develop services whilst being valued and supported then apply today. Enquiries to discuss the position are welcomed.

Main duties of the job

To perform physiotherapy assessment of patients with diverse presentations and complex physical, cognitive and psychological/mental health conditions. To provide a diagnosis of functional status, to develop and deliver an individual treatment plan.

To hold responsibility for own caseload and be responsible for a defined area of the service or a particular patient type, working with access to direct supervision. Supervision takes the form of formal training, clinical reasoning sessions, and peer review. Access to advice and support from a senior physiotherapist is available as required; clinical work is routinely evaluated.

To undertake all aspects of clinical duties as an autonomous practitioner, demonstrating time management and planning skills.

About us

We're an organisation that is getting better and better and our improvements are driven by a determination to deliver care we're proud of and our patients are happy with. We're no longer in special measures; we've opened two new theatres at our Elective Surgical Hub in King George Hospital (KGH); and Matthew Trainer, our Chief Executive, has been named the top CEO by the Health Service Journal.

We operate from two main sites - KGH in Goodmayes and Queen's Hospital in Romford. We have two busy emergency departments with more than 330,000 people visiting them last year. We're campaigning to secure the £35m we need to transform the A&E at Queen's and get rid of corridor care.

Our patients are benefitting from our Women's Health Hub in Ilford; an Ageing Well Centre in Hornchurch; and Community Diagnostic Centres (CDC) at Barking Community Hospital and at St George's Health and Wellbeing Hub in Hornchurch. These CDCs are open 12 hours a day, 7 days a week and are providing an extra 88,000 scans a year.

The majority of our 8,000 staff - who come from 146 different countries - live in the three diverse London boroughs we serve and are from black, Asian and minority ethnic groups. Many can work flexibly and more than 400 of them are on our Ofsted accredited apprenticeship programmes. We're proud to be a London Living Wage employer.

We're looking forward to introducing an electronic patient record that will be transformative for our staff and beneficial for our patients.
