Job overview
The Oncology Advanced Practitioner (ACP) will demonstrate a high level of expertise within the specialist service providing advice, education and support to staff, patients, their families and carers.
If you undertake a Trainee ACP pathway - This will be in line with NHS England Workforce, Training and Education Directorate (NHSWTE) requirements. You will follow a robust and structured ACP pathway which will lead to qualification and accreditation as an Advanced Clinical Practitioner, following completion of the training pathway. The requirements of this Job Description are aimed at fully qualified Band 8A ACPs which a Trainee will be expected to meet after completing their training.
Practising autonomously as an advanced clinical practitioner within the designated speciality area of Oncology - advanced clinical assessment, examination, diagnosis and treatment, the management of and the early intervention for patients with a primary haematology diagnosis prescribed Systemic Anti-Cancer Therapy (SACT), within an agreed scope of practice.
The post holder will be practising under supervision as a trainee advanced clinical practitioner within the designated Oncology speciality area to provide patient-centred clinical care.
The post holder will deliver an 80% clinical component to their role and 20% related to clinical audit, teaching, continuous professional development, research, and appraisal.
Main duties of the job
* The Advanced practice role is service driven and structured around the NHSWTE multi-professional framework for advanced practice. There are 4 pillars that underpin this practice and the postholder will work in accordance with the multi-professional framework for advanced clinical practice (HEE, 2017).
* Clinical Practice : The postholder must be able to deliver high quality care to patients, enable other practitioners to maintain professional expertise and be able to exercise a high degree of personal autonomy within their role.
* Professional leadership and management : The postholder should be able to demonstrate leadership skills which will support and motivate others to continuously improve quality of care and standards of practice. They should be a source of expertise and knowledge for others in their specialist fields.
* Education, training, and development : The postholder should contribute to the training and education of others, establishing formal links with local education providers where practicable. They should also contribute to the development of the multi-professional workforce within their specialist fields.
* Research : The postholder should contribute to the development of professional practice, through the promotion and service integration of evidence-based practice and audit/service evaluation of standards of care. They should also have a role within research within their specialist fields.

The Oncology Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) comprises a group of expert doctors, nurses and other health care professionals with a special interest in the diagnosis, treatment and management of people with Oncology diagnosis.
This MDT approach across all services ensures that all necessary investigations are carried out as quickly as possible and an agreed programme of treatment is planned which is specific to the patient's needs. Treatment options are then discussed with the patient and their family and started without delay. The Oncology MDT’s link into other health care professionals in primary and secondary care as appropriate, to ensure a seamless service is provided which meets the patient's needs.

* Work as a trainee advanced practitioner within the specialty, managing a caseload of patients delivering individualised direct patient care withing the own scope of practice.
* Participate in multidisciplinary clinics, participate in ward rounds, patient reviews and multidisciplinary team meetings.
* Provide highly visible and accessible professional leadership and demonstrate expert knowledge and standards of clinical practice.
* Liaise with inter-hospital departments and personnel across organisational and professional groups. Ensuring effective communication and interpersonal skills with other disciplines and organisations.
* Act as a clinical role model demonstrating high standards of advanced clinical practice and provide support or advice to other staff when necessary

* Post Graduate Qualification in specific area or equivalent experience
* MSc level qualification or equivalent evidenced experience
