Job Title: Bookkeeper
Salary: £28,000 - £37,000 FTE
Hours: Monday to Thursday 9.00 – 5.30pm – it could potentially be over 5 days
Location: East Grinstead
The Role:
An established and growing accountancy practice is seeking an experienced and confident Bookkeeper to support their expanding client base. This role would suit someone with a minimum of 3 years practice experience who enjoys working with a variety of clients and cloud accounting systems.
The successful candidate will work closely with the Company Director and other accounts staff to build and develop client relationships and offer exceptional accounting and bookkeeping services.
Key Responsibilities:
* Manage day-to-day bookkeeping for multiple clients across a variety of industries.
* Prepare and submit VAT returns.
* Accurately process monthly CIS submissions.
* Assist with year-end accounts from both complete and incomplete records.
* Liaise directly with clients and HMRC to resolve queries.
* Ensure reconciliations are completed accurately and within deadlines.
* Oversee bookkeeping tasks carried out by colleagues where required.
* Carry out general office duties as needed.
Skills & Experience:
* Minimum 3 years’ experience in an accountancy practice.
* Solid understanding of VAT, CIS and general bookkeeping.
* A broad understanding of Making Tax Digital (MTD).
* Confident using Xero, QuickBooks and Excel – Sage would be desireable.
* High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
* Strong communication skills with a client-focused mindset.
* Able to work independently or as part of a small team.
* AAT qualification (or equivalent) preferred, though not essential.
* Additional bookkeeping or accounting qualifications beneficial.
