Salary dependent on experience and qualifications. Higher rates may be offered to candidates with SEMH experience and Team Teach training. Pay is in line with school expectations and Agency Worker Regulations (AWR).
About the Role
A specialist SEMH provision in Enfield is seeking a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to provide 1:1 support for a pupil with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.
Team Teach training is essential for this role, as it forms a core part of the school’s behaviour support and safeguarding approach.
This is a rewarding opportunity to support a young person who requires consistent guidance to engage positively with learning. The school takes a trauma-informed, relationship-focused approach, helping pupils build trust, develop emotional regulation and access learning in a safe, supportive environment.
Team Teach Expectation (Essential)
Team Teach is a core part of practice within this school.
The successful candidate must:
• Hold a valid Team Teach qualification or be willing to undertake training immediately
• Use Team Teach de-escalation strategies consistently
• Apply safe and proportionate physical intervention only when necessary, in line with risk assessments
• Demonstrate physical resilience and confidence when managing challenging behaviour
• Anticipate triggers and intervene early to prevent escalation
Candidates must be comfortable working in an environment where Team Teach strategies are regularly used to support pupils with complex SEMH needs.
Key Responsibilities
• Provide consistent 1:1 support throughout the school day
• Build a positive and trusting relationship with the pupil
• Support emotional regulation, behaviour and engagement with learning
• Implement behaviour support strategies and individual plans
• Support pupils during lessons, transitions and unstructured times
• Use de-escalation strategies, including Team Teach approaches
• Work closely with teachers, safeguarding leads and pastoral staff
• Maintain accurate records of behaviour and progress
Requirements
Applicants must have:
• Team Teach training (or willingness to undertake training immediately)
• Experience working with children or young people with SEMH or behavioural needs
• The ability to remain calm and resilient in challenging situations
• Strong relationship-building and communication skills
• A patient and proactive approach
• A commitment to safeguarding and pupil wellbeing
• The right to work in the UK
Desirable
• Experience in SEMH schools, alternative provision, youth work or mentoring
• Understanding of trauma-informed or restorative approaches
