Job Overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen within ABUHB Specialist CAMHS, for a skilled and experienced Band 8a (0.6 WTE) Child & Adolescent Psychotherapist to join a well-established team, offering a range of psychotherapeutic interventions, parent and family work to some of our more complex children, young people and their families.
We are looking for a skilled child psychotherapist who is enthusiastic and hard- working, who brings specialist knowledge and experience of working with children and young people who may have very complex, multi-faceted emotional and mental health difficulties. You will need to be particularly skilled at proactive engagement and capacity to appreciate the complex interplay of neurodevelopmental difficulties, early developmental trauma, community experiences and be able to communicate with a range of different modalities and professional perspectives.
The post holder will carry a caseload and provide specialist mental health assessments and interventions to children (5-18) with mental health difficulties and emotional wellbeing concerns and support their families as part of a multi-disciplinary CAMHS provision. The post holder will also work autonomously with children providing direct 1:1 psychotherapy as well as offering consultation and advice to professionals working across CAMHS and other agencies. You will be expected to offer training to relevant staff involved in care delivery in universal services.
Main duties of the job
* To provide an efficient, effective programme of parent/child psychoanalytic psychotherapy to parents and children up to the age of 18, to families where there are identifiable difficulties which affect the parent’s ability to care for their children’s physical, mental and emotional well-being.
* To plan and prioritise own patient workload and be responsible for co-ordinating the service. Formulating and adjusting plans and strategies to meet the needs of the service.
* Provide a focus on trauma, neglect and abuse and develop evidence based therapeutic interventions.
* To be responsible for continually monitoring and evaluating risk to children in own caseload and during consultation discussions
* To provide supervision and consultation for multi–disciplinary staff within CAMHS and the multi-disciplinary team and liaise with related agencies
* To provide teaching and training to professional colleagues
* To be responsible for the contribution to the evaluation and monitoring of the service and to the development and implementation of the policies Health Board.
* To work autonomously with access to professional guidance and supervision as appropriate in line with Health Board guidelines and within Professional Code of Practice and Ethics.

Experience
Essential criteria
* significant experience working with children and young people
* experience of working at a senior level with children and young people in mental health services
* Experience of teaching, training and/or professional and clinical supervision.
* Experience of relevant client groups presenting high levels of complexity.
Desirable criteria
* experience of working with trauma
* experience of contributing to service developments
* Experience of training in child protection procedures
Qualifications
Essential criteria
* Qualification in Child Adolescent Psychotherapy Masters Level or Doctoral level
* Current registration with appropriate professional body - ACP and evidence of continuing professional development as recommended by the ACP
Desirable criteria
* Additional qualification in related area
* evidence of further postgraduate level study/advanced supervision
Skills
Essential criteria
* skills in the use of assessment, interventions for a wide range of mental health problems
* skills in providing consultation to other professionals and non-professional groups
* Ability to integrate available highly complex clinical information and to apply it in treatment and clinical management.
Desirable criteria
* the ability to speak welsh
Knowledge
Essential criteria
* knowledge of legislation and its implications for both clinical practice and professional management
* good knowledge of relevant theories, practice and research in the fields of CYP development/psychotherapy and ability to apply these

* qualification / experience demonstrating evidence of service development and research
