An exciting opportunity has arisen for a 6-month secondment post, as a band 6 clinical sister in the Endoscopy Unit at James Cook Hospital.
The successful candidate will use their professional judgment and assume responsibility and accountability for assessing, implementing, and evaluating clinical care for patients to meet their needs in a safe, caring environment that promotes dignity, privacy, and respect.
The post holder will be expected to develop knowledge and skills within the specialty and will assist in the management and organization of nursing work in the unit within the NMC Code of Professional Conduct. They will also provide information and support to patients undergoing endoscopic procedures.
The post holder will supervise healthcare workers in the unit and support the training and assessment of student nurses. They will deputize in the absence of the Unit Manager. Responsibilities include coordinating a busy Endoscopy Department at James Cook Hospital and Redcar Primary Care Hospital, as well as providing across-site cover for the Friarage Hospital. The post holder must demonstrate the Trust Values and Behaviours for nursing and midwifery staff at all times, and provide clinical management, leadership, advice, and support to relevant personnel for a full range of diagnostic and therapeutic procedures including gastroscopy, PEG, sigmoidoscopy, colonoscopy, and bronchoscopy.
The post holder will participate in an on-call rota for out-of-hours emergency procedures.
The post holder has a duty of care to patients and is expected to comply fully with best practice standards and trust policies for personal and patient safety, as well as the prevention of healthcare-associated infections.

The Endoscopy service is part of the Directorate of Gastroenterology, offering care across both South Tees NHS Foundation Trust sites at The James Cook University Hospital, Middlesbrough, and The Friarage Hospital, Northallerton.
Endoscopy at James Cook is a purpose-built 4-room unit specializing in therapeutic and diagnostic procedures. With the recent development of an additional procedure room and state-of-the-art equipment, this is an excellent time to join the expanding service and team. Full training will be provided to the successful candidate, with a handover from the current post holder. The post holder may be required to work at either James Cook University Hospital or Friarage Hospital, or elsewhere as required by the Directorate.
